apparently this is a tv and radio questionaire survey. Never leaves a message.

Left a message confirming they were Arbitron Ratings. They have called several times prior to this, never leaving a message until now.

Recieved letter and $1 bill earlier in the week from Steve Morris, president of Arbitron Ratings, stating that my household was one of the few chosen in my area to tell radio stations what I listen to. Stated that a research assistant would call me in a few days with more details. Doesn't this violate "Do Not Call" laws????? They have called twice today and hung up on my answering machine both times.

I also receive this phone call daily. And I have also received the letter in the mail with the $1 bill from Arbitron ratings.

These people are relentless!!! They have called multiple times a day for the past 10+ days. Why don't they get a clue when no one answers?

Rings once every night between 8pm -9pm

They've been calling twice a day for the last week. Half the time their # is blocked & don't leave a msg, sometimes the # is shown & they do leave a msg. Calls are made in the morning & between 8-9 pm.

These people won't stop calling yet won't leave a message. I've started to answer and then hang up right away but they don't get the message. I read that survey calls are not affected by the "do not call" list.

They keep calling after 8 pm, which I feel is pretty late to be calling!! I am on the 'do not call list' and so this is annoying!

They sent me a letter with a one dollar bill. The letter said I've been selected to participate in their radio survey and warned that they would call. They've called several times, but I'll just keep screening them out. Thanks for the dollar.

This outfit has called once or twice daily for several weeks, never leaving a message on the answering machine. I picked up tonight and yes it is Arbitron, a rating survey for radio. They randomly generate the numbers, that's how they get unlisted numbers too. Since they're not selling anything, they are not prohibited from calling by the Do Not Call list apparently; too bad. I think the Do Not Call list should be expanded to include calls like this too.

When I told person on the line that i was on the do not call I was informed that they do NOT have to conform to the list because they were not selling anything. I asked to be removed from the list and person got very rude with me. I hung up!

My daughter answered the phone when they called & informed me that I would be receiving a dollar in the mail, because she took a survey on radio ratings. I was mad at her for participating, however that is the only time they ever called & hopefully won't ever again!!!

Just hung up from Arbitron, this time, I called THEM. They have plagued me with calls for about 2 weeks now -- at least 7-8 calls, all hours of day & night. Some show up on caller ID, some show as Out of Area. I asked each and every person that phoned how they got my # and to please take me off their list. They say I was "randomly" selected. They never did take me off the list because I received 2 calls today. Finally got fed up enough to call them. Spoke to "Bonnie Claire" who had a bit of an attitude with me, because she didn't like my "tone" -- hmmmm, they barage me with unsolicited disruptive calls, they don't stop when asked, and SHE didn't like MY tone????? Ridiculous. We'll have see if "Bonnie" removes my number from the list now. What more can be done to stop this?

Arbitron Ratings kept calling daily and they didn't leave messages. I finally picked up told the guy to stop calling and hung up.

Recieve multiple calls daily. One message left stating they are a want to conduct a radio survey. Our number is unpublished. Last night they called at 9:08 p.m. and today I woke to the phone ringing at 7:34 a.m. with the same number. I have used my solicitation rejection function on my privacy director when there is no caller id but they still call.

Am on do not call list, but they keep calling, three times yesterday, and three times a day for the last four days before that! Fellow XM listener who wishes that the idjits would just get the message that, since no one's answering the phone, no one wants to speak to them. Graaah!

Apparently Arbitron thinks it can establish business relationships by mailing $1 to consumers. Whether this is valid is open to debate, but I refused delivery of the First Class letter from Arbitron, unopened, after marking it "Return to Sender." Thus not even this sham relationship has been established. I am reporting each and every call I receive on my Do Not Call listed phone number.

They used to call me many times a day, never leave a message, etc. One day they called at 7:45AM!!!! I was furious. I answered and laid into the caller. She said she'd take me off the list and they stopped calling...until today! Now they are calling again. This is ridiculous. They call my private line that only friends and family have who know not to call me during business hours as I work from home. I am contacting their headquarters. Maybe we should light up their switchboard until they get the hint and stop side-stepping the do no call lists.

Many, many calls during the day and evening- I'd say on average at least 4 times a day. I assume it is a computer calling as they never leave a message. I had previously done a radio listening book for the over a year ago, so I assume this is how they are getting around the DNC list/law- they can claim they have a prior business relationship with me. Never again.....I will not reward this kind of business behavior.

Well, they called AGAIN last night (after calling several times a day over the last few days.) This time it was at 9:15pm!!!!! I was furious. I lit that woman up on the phone and she tells me, "Oh, I didn't know you requested us to stop calling...you won't be included in this survey." Oh..so in a few weeks I'll be blessed with more of these annoying calls for another survey. This is out of control. I never give this number out - I have an alternate number I use for everything. I wish I knew how they got my number. It is unlisted and for family/friends only. No solicitors ever call - except Arbitron for their freakin' surveys. You'd think they'd stop after I've given them my opinion of their calling habits.

Call the senior management at home. Their names are listed in their SEC filings because it is public information. Its pretty easy to get a home phone number off of the internet. It really makes them mad when I call them at home, but I just explain the rules. They call me at home, I call them at home. They often have trouble getting the calls to stop too! But, they usually are successful after two or three calls from me. Its hilarious because they just get furious. I'm never profane or vulgar. Its not illegal to call someone at home.

Caller ID come up with "Unknown Caller". They have called on 14 July, 946 am; 13 July, 922 am; 11 July, 837 am & 930 am.

They may be annoying but they are legitimate and one of the primary ratings companies for radio stations. They are exempt from Do Not Call. I researched them and participated in the survey a few years ago (it consists of logging what radio stations you listen to for a week) because I wanted my favorite stations and shows to get better ratings:-) They never attempted to sell anything then or later.
I was randomly selected again (it's random computer generation of phone numbers), and they have called several times (and sent the dollars).
They have been reasonable when I have dealt with them, so it is may be worth picking up the phone to tell them you don't want to participate.

I just wanted to let Laurie (10-18-07) know that it is not ILLEGAL to send cash thru the US Mail. Just not advisable since the envelope could open any where along the way and that cash could disappear without a trace and no way of recovering it.
As for Arbitron, I've participated before. They were polite enough and seemed to be glad I was participating. The only thing that started to get irritating was when they called to make sure I had received my packet - 2 or 3 times. I guess nobody was making notes. Then they called 2 or 3 times to remind me to submit my responses after I already had (online). I guess they still weren't making or reading notes. But they were always polite.
I have to say, though, that I like Also's (05/28/07) solution the best.

Arbitron called 13 times this week, got same dollar in the mail, Talked to A richard, told him we were on the National "DO NOT CALL" list he said they were not governed or restricted by that list but he would take me off the list anyway......we'll see....I'm not going to hold my breath.....G

They call and call early and late

I got an am call while at work about a radio/TV survey and then tonight got this number calling me and i didn't answer. Looked it up to see who was calling me and found this website. Hope to hell they don't KEEP caliing me.

This company also calls using the number 800-638-7091. Arbitron has now called my home 14 times since Nov. 6, 2007. The last one was this morning (Nov. 14, 2007) at 7:30. I consider this harrassment. If this were an ex spouse, I would be filing for a restraining order about now. I have caller ID so I never picked up, but they have left 3 messages on my answering machine. They did identify themselves but also made it sound like it was imperative that I call them back. They also promised on their message yesterday that it would be the last one. Not so! I got the last 2 calls today. I googled their name and found an article on Forbes site - forbes.com. Seems Arbitron's reputation is sinking and they are desperate to get survey participants, hence the harassing phone calls. Don't these people get a clue when no one ever picks up?!? Does anyone know if this kind of unwelcome harassment has any legal basis for a restraining order, or at least threats of one?

Got a call at my work number.

When I told her we were on the DoNotCall list and that 7:45 was too early even if we weren't, she replied "Well, some people want us to call and this is the only time we can catch them." I said "I'm not one of them. Please remove me from your list." TO which she said "You're welcome."

arbitron inc. in MD survey company asking me what radio station i listen to, but later in the conversation started asking me about home address, family members and their age..gudness this is too personal for me to give!duh!

I got a $1.00 in the mail to, ask me to go to their site and register to take a survey. i out the dollar in my pocket and I do not want to take a survey, I did not ask them to send me a dollar and I am tired of them calling. The called and I told them I was on the "No Call List." They said their company didn't apply since they are not selling anything, just taking a radio survey. I told them I was not interested. They've been calling non-stop for at least a week. Just in the past 3 days they have called at 4:30pm, 8:45pm . . . the next day at 9:00am, 11:45am, 7:45pm and today at 7:55am, 2:00pm, 6:30pm, 9:30pm. They left a message on my answering machine today at 6:30pm saying "We were just trying to contact you ONE LAST TIME to see if you would like to be part of our research survey about local radio stations." ONE LAST TIME, I think not.

THEN they called again at 9:30pm saying "This is ____ calling from Arbitron. We aren't trying to sell anything. We do surveys on local radio listeners in your area and were just wondering what radio stations you listen to." I told the girl we listen exclusively to satellite radio, do NOT listen to local radio stations and that it was 9:30pm and I DO NOT appreciate telemarketing calls especially not this late at night. Her answer was "Um, whatever." then just sat there on the line not saying anything until I finally hung up on her.

We shall see if that actually stops the calls . . . :(

I have no solicitation through phone company as well as registered on the Do Not Call Registry & yet I still get this call? Is this legal?? Call came in at 8:25p my time which would be 10:25p Maryland time.

They called at 9:16 EST and when I answered the phone with my company name, the girl on the other phone asked if this was a business. I said it was and She said that they were going to take us off of there list.

Arbitron Radio Survey Company won't stop calling they are in Columbia, MD. My husband is ill and I think this is harassment since I've asked them not to call me.

These A HOLES call at least once a night and as many as three times a day never leave a message. Have had at least 45, probably more from them in the last 15 days WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH THEM, if I did talk to them I would only swear at them for as long as I could until they hung up on me.

I went to their website and sent an email to questions@arbitron.com stating that if they continued to call me, I would file a complaint with my telephone service provider. Received a reply that they had added me to "their" do not call list. Time will tell.

Received call from these guys. After recognizing that the number they auto dialed was a business, guy asked to verify my number so he could remove it from their database. Interesting, very interesting...

arbitron thinks i have some equiptment and Sara keeps calling to get it back. She doesn't listen or is on crack because i have a cell phone that is a new number to me and there is not way i can help her reach the people who had the number before. I have e mailed arbitron and asked them to fix her, but now someone else is calling to get the stuff back but I don't have it and i don't know how to get it for them.

Husband answered a call this weekend & told them that he listens to satellite radio both at home & in his car, he was asked to participate in a survey & he declined. He also declined for ALL other family members in the household.

Company has called every day at least 3 times a day since last Friday June 27,2008, even though he declined to participate in their survey. Somehow they still want to intrude on our privacy, get our address , ages & other info. We respectfully have declined to be in their survey. We are now REPORTING THEM to the BBB for harassment. We have asked them not to call more than 5 times. We will consider reporting it to the Direct Marketing Association. Or to the Attorney General of this state if the calls continue. What part of NO do they not understand?

This company started calling the last few days and they call at least twice a day. They always let the call go to our voicemail and then all we hear is background chatter and they hang up.

I just started getting these calls as well. I tried emailing them at questions@arbitron.com (from an email address I never use) to get them to cease and desist.
I think everyone who receives these annoying calls should send Abritron an annoying letter or post card ... with postage due that they have to pay if possible.

Sent a letter saying I had been picked to complete a radio station survey and they'd be getting in touch with me by phone.
I had this happen before and couldn't get them to leave me alone, so finally did the survey (even though I never listen to the radio and wrote this on each day)

I have had all my #'s on the "Do not call" list for several months. They also call my cell phone, it is supposed to be illegal for telemarketers to call a Cell phone. I have told them to take my # off the list many times, then someone new calls When I ask to speak with a supervisor they hang up.

They call any time morning afternoon and night....... they get my ans. machine or I pick up and hang up..very annoying. Once it said push 8 or 9 to be removed from the list. I did it..never did any good. This has been going on for some time.

We have received two calls from this number asking if they have reached a business. Wording was identical on both calls they asked if they were calling a number that was one # off from ours. Said thank you and hung up.

We found a very simple solution for all annoyance calls. We did some research on telephones and went to Best Buy and purchased a Panasonic phone Model KX-TG9333 DECT 6.0. This model has three handsets but you can get the same model with one, two or three. It allows you to block up to 20 phone numbers as long as you have Caller ID. It rings once or twice then disconnects the call. The caller never hears anything. The readout on the phone and the "missed call" list shows "Call Blocked". Just make sure you let the phone ring once or twice to see if it's a blocked call or someone you want to talk to. WE LOVE IT!!!!

Called today for first time at 1:21 pm, left no message. Since we are unlisted and unpublished, they must be using autobots to call. We have ability to block if they keep calling.

They call daily about the same time every day (noon +/- Mountain time). No message left.

This group has called my home for the past week, several times a day and they have left a couple of messages to return the call if we were intersted in participating in a rating program. The past couple of days they called at 7:30 am, 8:15 pm then again 7:45 am and just now at 10:20 am. They left a messsage last night saying they were trying one last time to see if we wanted to participate. As you can see, it was not "one last time".

My family's unlisted phone number (which is enrolled in National NO CALL List) has started getting nightly calls from this number, which Caller ID only tells us is from "OUT OF AREA" (= long distance). Someone is definitely on the line. But, they don't have the decency to say anything after greeted. HARASSMENT!

this number 410-312-8222 and Arbitron Inc. keep calling everyday and even early morning and late at night. Never leave a message. why you won't leave a message you can't speak english, so stop calling. your disturbing somebody's home.

These bitches call religiously around 9 in the morning. I go to school full time and would like to have extra sleep, but I can't achieve that because Arbitron keeps calling me about some damn radio ratings. Me surveying about radios are not going to help me graduate, their not going to cure my illness. I filed a complaint to their asses so they can never call me again. That and Kantar OPS.

Simple Solution!

I started receiving a rash of calls from 410-312-8222, which is a company called Arbitron. I sent an email to "questions@arbitron.com" and promptly received the following email (I x'd out the phone numbers):

Thank you for contacting us with your concern.

We take our respondent's requests very seriously. At your request, we have removed the phone number for your household, xxx-xxx-xxxx, from our survey. We have placed it and xxx-xxx-xxxx on Arbitron's "Do Not Call" list. This should prevent them from being selected for any Arbitron projects in the near future. Please allow 12 hours for the system to update.

As a company, we place a premium on respect and professionalism. We regret any inconvenience you may have experienced as a result of any phone calls you received related to the Arbitron ratings survey.

Get a referee whistle that is LOUD> Make sure you have a human on line and then blow it into the phone. They will soon get the message. It will blast them out of their chair. Yea!

These people are presistant!! They even call my house as late as 9pm! I have small children I am trying to get to sleep! Now that is harrassment!

arbitron media ratings sends out a questionaire in the mail that usually has $2 in it. if you fill it out and send it in they'll send you another $10. they get your number from the questionaire that you send back, so they're only calling you because you wanted the $12 bucks. just email them and they'll stop.

Just got a call from this number, I never answer calls that aren't in my phone. I had the chance to do a search on the number (which landed me here) but they also left a message telling me they were from Arbitron.

A few months ago I filled out a short survey they mailed me (I think there was $2 in the original and then they sent me another $5 after they received the completed survey).

For all you idiots out there complaining about harassment - chances are you filled out their survey, took their $$$ and if you had any decency at all you'd at least give them a few minutes of your time and complete the radio survey. I plan on doing it, especially since they just sent me another letter with $10. Not a bad deal at all...

If you really don't want to deal with doing the survey, I'm pretty sure if you either email or answer next time they call and tell them you're not interested in participating, they'll stop calling you.

Either way, I think you should stop complaining because, as far as I know, these people don't cold call; they only call those who replied to their initial survey. Thus making it an unsolicited call... pretty sure mine had a disclosure on it stating that they may contact me.

I like AlSO's response - please list Arbitron's owner's PERSONAL PHONE NUMBERS so we can call them and see how they like it. Hopefully they will get the point of what their "business" really does - harass people at home.

When I get their numbers my call is going to go like this:

"Hello, I'm calling to do a survey on people's thoughts on receiving phone calls on surveys. Do you
A: Welcome the survery calls - love talking to strangers on the phone
B: Find them annoying
C: Too busy to talk - call again later

Thank you for your time - I will call again in a few days to see if you changed your answer.
Have a great day."

We have been receiving phone calls from 410-312-8222 since June 27. I have answered and asked them to stop calling; we have called back and asked them to stop calling. Nothing works. I just sent an email to them requesting that they take us off the list or I will file a complaint with the FTC.

We are listed on the Do Not Call registry, but as a survey company, they are exempt from that and can all. We have not received any surveys from them in the mail.

We did a radio survey for them last year, and I imagine they're calling us trying to get us to do the radio survey again this year.

This company started calling me this week. I am shocked they call at 7:30am! I go to work and come home to find different numbers but they all belong to Arbitron Inc. Their company continues to call till nearly 9pm. I don't want to answer as I've never heard of them plus I'm really annoyed they call continuously.

Started calling last week regarding a radio survey. They have left messages last two calls. They say they are Arbitron Inc.

Follow up: E-mailed questions@arbitron.com and requested they place my number on the do not call list and remove from any call lists currently have. Also requested not to participate in any current or future surveys and have no further contact.

Got a response back same day (and have had no calls since): Dear Mr. x,

I have placed your number on Arbitron's Do Not Call list.

As a company, we place a premium on respect and professionalism and take your request very seriously. We regret any inconvenience you may have experienced as a result of any phone calls received related to the Arbitron ratings survey.

Ha! Do these calls ever stop? I won't answer, I don't want to do any surveys!

So far they've called 15 times. Positive note: I'm trying to train the dog to not get excited when the phone rings, so when Arbitron calls, I just let it ring and try to teach the dog to be calm and go to his bed.
