Same recorded message about lowering interest rate on our credit card. We don't have any credit cards and our number is on the Do Not Call Registry.

Left a message offering to lower my credit card interest rates. Tried to call back. Verizon says the number is no longer in service.

"Urgent message" RE: "lowering (my) interest rate". Definite scam

Received a call from this number at noon today, just tried to call back and got a recorded message that the number was no longer working. What a scam!

RMS We have an important message for you and you are on hold for a rep concerning college loans out of New Jersey even after you write to them to stop.

cell phone caller called hanging up as soon as my answer machine came on. Other web complaint sites say it's Card Holder Services.

This is the recording from Rachel at card services. I pressed 1 to talk to a representative to see why I am getting calls after being put on a do not call list by this message but was disconnected before I could speak to them. I called the number back and got a message from Verizon saying that number was no longer in service.

Reports on 800Notes point to another credit reprice scammer. These are very hard for an individual to isolate and sue. The best you can do is file complaints with the FTC and attorneys general. The FTC has in fact put the clamps on several ''Heathers'' and ''Rachels'' in the past couple of years. It will take time and a critical mass of complaints to shut down more.

I'd agree on two points, that verbal demands with the worst phone pests are a waste of breath, and that running here to complain with no details to offer is even less useful. By far the majority of callers which attract complaints are either exempt from DNC list scrubbing or simply don't care what any law says. That's what makes it so critical to turn down the emotion and sharpen one's observation. WE have to carry the load, do the homework, and collect information, not just bellow skyward and wish for a rescuer.

LMA's vote of confidence is appreciated, as I usually find stones and tomatoes thrown at me on this site. It's true I have a helpful streak, but I caution that I can be very IMpatient with willful ignorance.

Deborah you have my sympathy that you and your mother are dealing with this. Can you provide any information on who "they" are? Debt collectors or scammers/fraudsters? Names or companies? Grab a notebook and write down a log of who, what was said, when and what days, and what you've told them… a paper trail will help if you need to take legal action. If fact if you have not filed a complaint with the FTC that they are continuing to harrass you even after being told to stop, you should do it now. Contact your state Attorney General's office and see if they can help.

I just read some comments on here from Resident47 who seems very helpful and patient; maybe he can provide further advice.

These people have been harrassing my aging mother for months. I've asked them and asked them to stop calling. I've told them we are on a no-call list and they persist. I wonder why people like this can't be prosecuted???

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
