".... credit card interest rates and monthly payments may be scheduled to increase _this month_. Press "6" now to speak to a live agent. As a valued customer you have been selected to have your rates reduced to a low fixed rate, as low as 6.9 percent. Save thousands in interest and finance charges now. Press "6" _now_ to speak to a live agent. Press "6" _now_." [END]

(Identical to below)

Yeah right, like all zeroes can be an exchange. This smells of a scammer boiler room in MacClenny, FL with numerous munged numbers called "Personal Data Systems", but often DBA "Credit Services". They tried a friend of mine last month, originating from 9042594351, with a very similar canned message to the one I've cited below.

This came from "unknown", my favorite caller, on 09 Feb. Canned message stupidly began during recorder greeting. This is the part past the tone I transcribed, delivered in a clipped male voice, emphasis is theirs:

".... credit card interest rates and monthly payments may be scheduled to increase _this month_. Press "6" now to speak to a live agent. As a valued customer you have been selected to have your rates reduced to a low fixed rate, as low as 6.9 percent. Save thousands in interest and finance charges now. Press "6" _now_ to speak to a live agent. Press "6" _now_." [END]

The vague sales language and pushy urging easily suggests data phishing, not from a bank with legitimate inquiries.

same message different area code. "urgently need to contact you about your credit card or account's . something about rates and lowering them ", female robo call. Same as the calls received from 062 exchange (area code) which is Indonesia (yah right.. don't go there ) . Crooks , bastards , buggers and thieves all . In essence , a scam . Don't fall for it, do hang up quickly. They will likely call again so just remember this time they are from Florida.

Maybe I can talk to a person. I can be a real MF. Though he won't care, I'll tell the dumbass redneck to shove the phone up his arse. Maybe that'll get my # off their list.

I got called by Card Services on 1/19/09. I pressed 9 to speak with an operator. I asked him to confirm the name of his company and he was evasive ("this is your credit card company"). I asked him again and he said this was regarding my VISA card. A reasonable guess as VISA dominates the consumer credit card market. I then asked him what is the name of the bank on my VISA card and he promptly hung up. This reminds me of dealing with toner pirates in the 1990s.

Call came in at 1:48 pm on 01/14/2009. Recording came on saying they could lower my interest rate on my credit card. Press 9. I did and then a guy came on asking if he could help me and I said I don't know, you called me. He said he could lower my interest rate to 6% on my master or visa card. I told him three times I was not going to give him my card number and then he hung up on me. We are also on the DNC.

These people called stating they were "Member Card Services." I am on the Do Not Call list and informed them of such. When I asked for their information, they said they would inform the company about me being on the do not call list and promptly hung up.

I didn't talk to anyone because I don't answer unknown callers

2008-12-24 20:35:44 UTCUNKNOWN

First time i got it and don't want them calling me again and they wouldn't even say anything to me so i just hung up on them.

All calls go through our answering machine, if nobody speaks we do not pick up. This number never ever ever leaves a message.

The reason the government cannot stop these calls is that the numbers are spoofed and cannot be traced without the feds getting off their big butts. There is NO "000" prefix. Think about it before you claim to be surprised. The other reason is that nothing the government does ever works. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole corrupt group were taking bribes to not pursue anything. If they actually wanted it stopped, it would stop. I get about five of these calls a week, usually not from the same made-up number. Am completing a report for school, so I always answer. This must be a time consuming way to scam money and everyone knows about them, so I expect they'll die out from lack of profit pretty soon. They're still not as annoying as political robo calls!

It was a recording asking if we wanted to lower our interest rates on credit cards to the rate of 6.5%, if so press 9. When you press 9, phone went to a busy signal. Called the number back to see what would happen, and a recording comes on saying that it is no longer in service, out of service or has been changed. That's how scams work. We too are on the DNC list, but it seems these people ignore it. All I can say is "Beware".

2008-12-10 00:31:38 UTCGail

We got their computer generated phone call. Both phone lines in our house literally started ringing at the same time - with the same phone number showing up on caller ID, and the same recorded message. BOTH phone lines have been on the Do Not Call registry for years!

2008-11-01 19:15:18 UTCChris

When I pressed 9 to speak to an operator and told the man to remove my number from their calling list....he used profanity. Can SOMEONE not stop these idiots from harassing us?

2008-10-27 15:46:22 UTCterriseay

Same as everyone else, I pushed 9 to get started then asked to to be removed from their call list. SHe hung up on me. Of course being a credit card scam you can't call the number back! Sounded like such a sweet young girl- too bad she is in a scam business.

2008-10-25 16:36:54 UTCBobbie

Same as the other callers. Card Services wanting to lower Credit Card rates. Why can't these scums be stopped. What is the purpose of the Do Not Call list?

2008-10-22 23:11:19 UTCOH

left no message on the answering machine

2008-10-21 21:38:57 UTCTommie

These people change numbers like I change my mind, several times a day. I would really like to sue them for calling when I've asked them not to several times. I report them but it does no good.

2008-10-21 20:27:42 UTCLouise

Another call from card services. This time it was "rachel". These people are harrassing me using different numbers and names. I am really, really angry. They are ignoring the DNC list. They are not from any credit card company and they ask for your numbers and then they charge you anywhere from $599.00 to $999.00. Any help would be appreciated as to how to get rid of them forever. My phone is not for the use of anyone soliciting money or trying to sell me anything.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
