I have gotten two to three calls from this number a month, sometimes with a message, sometimes without. The message is in fact always in Spanish.

I got a call from this number with this Spanish things on 9/27, then I got the same s from another number 803-218-9988 crap.

Someone told me that he got a call from this number and he discovered that the person of this # is called Manuela Cruze down in LA, CA.

I had a feeling it was a telemarketer or something once I got that strange busy signal, but I wasn't sure. I can say that I am sure of one thing now though. If you consistently harassed from a specific number (or numbers), I would recommend actually entering in that number in your phone book directory and setting the specific number's "answer" setting to quiet so that at least when they call, you'll hear nothing and the annoyance is then reduced to see a "missed" call or a voicemail on your cell.

My appologies if this is wrong but I believe that when someone doesn't re-up their cell phone or have their number changed or whatever that freed up number is just recycled to a new cell phone user, so when you get a new cell phone there's a chance you're getting a phoine number previously used by some crack head that fell for every phone scam that came around.

I have received phone calls from this number several times (in the morning and at night).The message in Spanish tells you you have won something...asks you to press 1 or 2 (can't remember...was sleeping)to claim your prize. I have not done either one because some companies do that to route your call to a foreign country where you start getting charged by the minute for adult calls. However, I called the number (from a different line) and I got a fast busy tone. The recording is from a well spoken man in spanish(not mexican). I guess, I will pay more attention next time I get a call from this &#%#^# POS company, and then, maybe, I'll get more details.

if you read the small print on the govt website regarding the landline and cellphone DoNotCall ists you will see that the probelm w/the donotcall registry is that companies are suppsoed to police themselves. they pay money to the government once a quarter to get the list of numbers they are not supposed to call. they are then responsible for removing these frm their lists - which we all know they do not do. until enough complaints are generated, the gov't doesnt even look into it. for that reason, i am not givng out my cell #.

I received a pre-recorded call in spanish from this phone number and asked me to press a number in order to receive a free digital camera. Having said that, about a week ago in my hometown newspaper the local sheriff was informing the community of a scam of people pretending to be from the telephone company and asking people to enter a series of number followed either from an asterisk or the pound sign. According to the sheriff if you follow those instructions you will give them access to your long distance service and they will start billing calls to your account. By the way you can't register your cellphone number with the Federal Goverment Do Not Call List and that will prevent telemarketers from making sales calls to your cellular or home numbers for 5 years. The goverment website is: donotcall.gov and be gratefult that I am biligual and willing to help and educate. Because ignorance is a bliss and from some of the preceding messages were not only misguided but a sad reminder that intolerance have no place in a society like ours. God bless America. Man, It pays to read this thread, I did pay attention though, Alex posted the name of the company that is originating these calls, also R.J. did point why these calls are made, finally Jose posted the link to put an official complaint with the FCC. I submitted an official complaint and the company could be liable for illegaly calling cell phone numbers at random. We should all do the same.

I do phone tech work from time to time (I'm a network/*nix admin in real life), and as I understand it, the ANI is not the same as the CID, it is sent in a different channel. The ANI "should" be tagged to the call by the originating CO as it is used for billing purposes. The CID can be injected by the caller and if not present will default to the ANI. The CO should have records by the ANI number, which should be valid... but getting them to pull the records is another matter. Someone who is also receiving via a full T1 into their PBX ought to also be able to poll the ANI during the call... but unfortunately I have yet to find a cell phone (as all receivers seem to be cell users/numbers) that has a full T1 interface... ;)

I have been wanting to try the multiple-forward trick to see if the ANI could be teased out... but don't have a setup for that at the moment and the very short call time (~15 secs of recorded message and then a hangup) makes it hard.

For those that don't know:
ANI - Automatic Number Ident
CID - Caller Identification
CO - Central Office (ie. where the phone switches are)
PBX - Private Branch Exchange (ie. a privately owned phone switch)
NPA - Number Plan Area (ie. area code)
NXX - Slang for the CO Code portion of a phone number (ie. the 3 digits after the area code)
NANPA - North American Numbering Plan Administration (ie. the group that assigns all NA country phone number blocks, in groups of 10,000, to the phone companies).

Just got this phone call for, what I think, is the third or fourth time in as many months on this cell. I think I get it more often on my home phone, despite being unlisted and on the DNR. The way the DNR works, I suspect these assholes are pulling these numbers *from* the DNR rather than using the DNR as a filter they way they're supposed to.

I reported the number on the FCC website. When I get my email working again, I intend to contact my local news station and let them know. I encourage everyone to do the same. The more the media focuses on this, the more likely it'll put a bigger fire under the FCC's butt to go after these assholes.

The only drawback is it might get more spamming assholes to jump on the bandwagon. In that case, forget the fine. I strongly advocate staking their stinking, rotting, bodies on stakes along major highways to show we mean business.

1. It is a scam they don't care about the National No Call List!

2. They are not calling your cell phone to use up your minutes. They are calling random cell phones in areas where illegal spanish speaking people live. Look at the map!

3. They are calling cell phones because said illegal spanish speaking people do not sign up for a plan with a phone provider, they use pre-paid.

4. They are targeting illegal spanish speaking people because if they manage to get someone to send them the money, they are less likely to call the police to track down the criminals, being here illegally and all.

Did I miss anything? Oh yeah until the proper authorities can shut them down, place them in your phone book under a name, I use zzzSpanish, and then assign that entry to a group whose ring tone is SILENT.

This may be a wake up call to the phone companies to increase network security. It may be possible to lockup communications one network at a time. For why, we can only guess. Why in spanish? May be that is the one language that has almost no group of people that are a threat to us. Why Cell phones? May be tracing calls are harder sense they are sub networks.

I get a call from this number at least once a week, sometimes more often. It is always a Spanish speaking telemarketer. Once, after pressing 1 I got through to a woman who did not speak english and she hung up on me. These calls are so aggrevating, I never answer for unknown numbers any more.

Just received the call from this number - same number I receive calls from once a week. I DO speak Spanish with some fluency. I did not get a recording, rather I did get an immediate live person who asked for a variety of people to talk to.

I told them (hadn't seen this wonderful site yet) that none of those people are at this number, that they had a wrong number and that my phone number was registered with the Do Not Call list...all in Spanish.

I reveived a call from this number while I was on a phone with my friend today, luckily I did not answer. But in the past I had pre-recorded message in spanish several times as well. It is really annoying.

Call your cell phone company and report this number so they can block the calls from coming in. Demand that they do so. I have a pre paid cell so it costs me when I receive these calls. We must stop this now before it grows. Make sure your number is on the do not call list, or it will never stop.

A note to everyone: This number, 323-927-1550, is FRAUDULENT and IS NOT the true originating number. The DNC will not help you as the caller is deliberately breaking the law to begin with. These same calls having been coming for the last couple months from someone with a T1/PBX that is inserting fraudulent CID numbers. This time the CO exchange was actually valid... though that was probably a mistake by the spammer. All examples in the past (that I know of) have been NPA-NXX exchanges that are/have never been assigned to any phone company (ie. 123-456-xxxx has never been assigned by NANPA). Examples include:

The list goes on and on. The message is "you have won a free camera, press 1 to talk with an operator". Got this call but didn't answer because I was in class. Initially thought it was one of my friends from LA, but Google'd it just to be sure. Seems to be originating from the Los Angeles area.

Just got this one a few minutes ago. I get this one a few times a month. Sometimes they leave a pre-recorded vm message in espanol. I only have a cell #, and so I won't answer unless I recognize the number. Won't waste my minutes on these rat-bastards.

Missed call earlier today. Have received telemarketing calls as described here, but didn't pay attention to number. Just registered my mobile at donotcall.gov already have my land line registered.

this number has called many times before, but i would always miss it. i finally registered my cell phone on the national do not call registry. call 1-888-382-1222 to do the same.
