That is well known that cash can make people independent. But how to act if somebody doesn't have cash? The one way is to receive the personal loans or secured loan.

I have called Frank Magid's home as instructed by cmoore below. I called at 11:30pm and the woman promised to remove my phone number. She seemed mildly annoyed and tired which was satisfying.

Called several times but left no messages, always calls when at work.

I've been getting a call from this number at noon every day, just like clockwork. After two rings, they hang up. I called the number today and got a recorded message (same as Andy, below). I pressed '1' and was asked to say my phone number after the tone. I figured, they've already got my phone number, so what the heck. The message said it would take 24-48 hours to remove my number from their list. We'll see.

Keep getting calls on my cell with no message being left from this number

10/29/08 - This number has been calling our home for the past week or so; at times calling up to 3 times per day, usually in the late afternoon/evening times. They never leave a message and they usually hang up before the machine is able to pick up. They allow the phone to ring three, maybe four times. On the caller ID, it states it is Frank N Magid. Someone has waaaay too much time on their hands!

the caller ID gives the name Frank N Magid, that number is listed for Cedar Rapids, IA. The person never leaves a message and has called 6 times in the last 3 days. If he is so anxious to get in touch, why not leave a message. It's getting annoying. The phone is a service we pay for, to use at our convenience and for those individuals that we give the number to....not for people to use for bothering us. We are on the do not call list.

I got the same thing where the woman said "wrong #". They are a market research firm and they've called my office numerous times without leaving messages. I called them back and had them remove my #. At least my called ID said "Frank & Maggin".

Called twice today...husband answered second call...they were doing a survey about the weather forecasts on our local news channels and which news channels we watched most. Waste of time.

They called several times yesterday and I answered once and it was just a dead line. No sound or anything.

Message indicates they are a research firm, but no one ever answers. Wonder how effective their research is. Most calls are during the day, but if they ever get to late night calls, I want to know if anyone has had success in reporting this group.

OK everyone! I called 319 777-7345 and left a message for Frank to remove all of our telephone number from their list including (111)111-1111 THROUGH (999)999-9999 which covers ALL NPA NXX North American Telephones....if they do not comply, they ARE in direct volition of the 'do not call' guide lines in which we can all sue them together. Follow my idea for EVERYONE company that is finding stupid loopholes that our Government over looked when trying to stop all this telephone harassment!

We have been called at least once a day, sometimes twice a day, since the 16th of May. It's annoying and no one is on the other end. I will no longer pick up the phone.

Calls come in 1-3 times per day the past 3 days, but they hang up after 3 rings.No message.

Told them I have a registered Do Not Call number in Colorado, and ordered them to take it off their list, and the caller smugly said they were not subject to Do Not Call rules. If you do a reverse call, you'll get a recording and if you follow the prompts, it will lead to a 10-second voicemail opportunity to tell them your number to remove it from their database.

Came up on Caller ID as Market Research. What was the point of having a do not call list, if these people are still going to call??

This party has called me a variety of times, ringing only twice so I have no time to get the call. It happens several times a day. I am on No-Call list. Sometimes these calls have static and I wondered if they were tying into my phone line to make other calls.

Got a call from a friendly-sounding person at this number who said she wanted me to do a survey, which she said would take 15 minutes. I said OK although I was busy because I always feel sorry for these callers. Around the second question, she asked me the name of the county I live in, and then how to spell it, and then she said "it's not in my computer" and hung up. Evidently, it was OK for me to spend 15 minutes of my life helping them, but not OK for them to spend 5 seconds saying "apparently you aren't in our survey area after all; goodbye" or something similarly civil. Now I feel like a sap for being willing to do the survey in the first place.

My business phone has received no less than 7 calls from this number today. While most are hang-up calls, I've spoken with a "real person" twice. Both times, when I've asked not to be called back, they have rudely hung up the phone. My last call today was at 9:00 pm!! Market research about cable in my area to a biz phone? Upon calling THEIR number, I'm told that they are exempt from the law insofar as telemarketing. Frustrating!

If you call the number back and press 1, it will allow you to leave a message to have your phone number removed from their calling list.

I received 4 calls from (319) 447-5488 since 2/29 - 3 of those calls were today. My wife called their number
and got a recording stating that they are a market research firm and DO NOT have to follow the do not call law,
also, the recording stated that if we do not want to get further calls from them to put in our number and they
will stop calling us - she did.

So they called us on Friday the 23rd and then again on the 24th-same thing, 4 rings and then they hung up.

I've received 2 calls from this number, but neither no message was left. The calls came nearly exactly 24 hours apart. I do not recognize the name on the Caller ID display.

This is a research company (Magid.com) They have called me EVERY day of rover a month.

Rang 4 times and then they hung up-never got to our answering machine.

Called again tonight! Last night they wanted to know about my radio listneing habits, tonight they want to know what I watch on TV. Told them Im on the DNC and she told me they are exempt. I asked her if I can survey her about her panty drawer, and she hung up. Hehehe!

Called 2/20/08 about 6:50pm, answered and they hung up. Been gtting a few "unavailable" numbers all day the past 2 days, mabey has something to do with them?

Here's a good solution: Many phone services allow you to block a certain number of phone numbers. We have Comcast digital voice and you can block 12 numbers. Check out your service instruction manual. We blocked the number and no more middle of the night calls and hangups.

Called five times and left no message until I answered. No one on the other line, but stopped calling after that.

I received 6 calls for a week now. Never a message. Calls just seem to be random.

Simply file a complaint where directed. It takes 2 minutes. Know the telephone # of which they called from. Also know what they said or what company they said they were.

IMPORTANT - make sure you are registered on the DO NOT CALL list (same website). Call from your home phone to register. You must do this every 5 years!

Frank Magid and Associates is a large, well known television reaerch and consulting firm. They have a client station in just about every TV market in America. They do most of their research books via random telephone calls.

I received a call last night from this company. They were doing a survey. They want me to come in for a follow-up. They will be paying me $100 for 90 minutes of filling out a survey on literacy. These people can call me any time! I did research them-they do research for different organizations.

I returned the call to this # on my Caller ID and got the Frank N Magid co recording. On the recording they identify themselves as a market research firm that is exempted from the
Do Not Call list restrictions. I have never heard of this exemption before?

MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON THIS BOARD!! Please do like i just did and file a complaint against these @#$holes with the BBB immediately. Let these D@#$%bags get flooded with complaints!

Just put our 6 month old down for a nap - phone rings, hangs up when i answer, ID says 319-447-5488 - so i call back to chew some ass, get a recording from Frank N Magin Inc saying they are exempt from DNC list and to press 1 and then say your number. This sounds like a phishing scam to harvest legit home phone numbers. I think it is time we file a class action suit against the phone company carriers, that is the only way this crap will stop. It is an unfortunate truth of how these things work, and it will end up costing everyone more $, but that is the only way - start complaining to the phone company - PUT AND END TO THIS STUPID CRAP!!!!!

Its a research firm. They want to conduct a survey. Says they are exempt from the do not call registry. They offer you a chance to record your phone number so they wont call again. I however did not give them my number.

Call came in at 5:45pm Thursday Dec. 6th 2007. Did not answer, no message left. Call comeing from San Diego Central County no name. Call came as "unavailable" on answering machine.

Get at least two calls a day, with only two rings. I don't answer when I don't get a name that I recognize.

Even if you get a tele-surveyist, you may not be someone they want to profile, so they ask you a stupid question like do you live in Tampa, Florida. You answer yes, and they say thanks and goodbye.

They have called here at least twice a day for about a month but I don't answer Out of Area calls and they do not leave messages.

Magid and Assoc work primarily for local television stations with an emphasis on helping local news departments get better ratings. So this third party vendor is most likely being retained by one of your local television stations. Call them and let them know what you think of the repeated calls and hangups. They may not be aware of the harrassment.

Minimum of 3 evenings I have received multiple calls. Tonight was early, 6:15pmET but has been when I'm trying to put my kid to bed or settle in for the evening! When answered, I was hung up on & if I don't answer either rings 2X and hangs up but calls back. Max. 4 rings & hangs up just as machine picks up, before message plays. I googled to my surprise found this list! Also on DNC list. FREAKY & ANNOYING! ...kinda funny to see we're not alone in the annoyance isn't it?

A woman said something about a research firm doing a survey on local newspapers. I cut her off and said I didn't have time for this. She asked if they could call another time; told her no.

This number was on our caller ID twice today, both times the call lasted on for two rings before it stopped. We didn't even have time to answer it. When I do get a chance, based on what I have read here, I'm going to give them hell and tell them not to call me anymore (but I will not give them my number, even though I am sure they will have caller ID). Maybe if this keeps up we should all call the number repeatedly and offer off-color suggestions as to what they should do with their research? Maybe we should all say we are going to have Frank Magid's baby and we want to know where to get in touch with him for child support?

If they don't have the personnel to handle the people on the other end of their autodialer, they do not have the right to disturb everyone in their homes all day long for weeks on end like this. These people have been calling us at least four times per day for the last week or so and hanging up. No message left. They called earlier today, according to caller id. Then called tonight and I answered. She said it was research and would just take a few minutes. I am also on DNC list but thought that this would be one of the presidential/political polls, which would be ok since that is the only type I would do (you always hear it on tv but I don't know anyone who has actually done one). Anyway this lady proceeded to ask me 30 minutes of questions about what would make me tune into a specific news station for the weather. She tried to be neutral but I got the feeling that it was for KIRO 7 news in Seattle. It was a waste of time and she tried to get personal info, which I refused to give. I gave her my first name and city I lived in, but she also tried to get my last name, age, income, and address specifics. She may have tried for more but I kept saying no.

I know -- yes, it's me again.

I reminded myself that the problem with the do not call list is that we're being deceived by its name. We're thinking that it means if we're on it, we won't be called.

The problem is that it applies only to telemarketers. It's very specific. We think "do not call" means "phone shouldn't ring." But it really means that the phone shouldn't ring if someone's calling to sell us something.

I have a feeling that's the problem we're all encountering on both a state and federal level with this firm. And sadly, I think it's why they're right about the do not call list applying to them.

And believe me, it gives me no pleasure whatsoever to say that.

In my last post, I quoted from the federal do not call web site about researchers not being governed by the DNC rules as long as they're not selling anything.

I live in Pennsylvania so I went to PA's site to look for exemptions. It does not appear as if researchers like our friends in Iowa are permitted to call here in PA. The following are listed as exemptions:

The Do No Call List should stop MOST telemarketing calls but there are exceptions for:

*Calls that you request
*Calls made by businesses to existing customers or to consumers who have done business with the company in the past 12 months - for example: calls from banks with whom you have accounts or your credit card company
*Debt collection calls
*Calls from tax-exempt charitable or fraternal organizations
*Calls from veterans organizations
*Calls made on behalf of political groups or candidates

It might be worth checking your state's information.

This troubles me. I was just doing some research on the federal do not call site and I'm afraid that the people at this number are right about the DNC law not applying to them. This is from the FAQ section:

What about telephone surveys?

"If the call is really for the sole purpose of conducting a survey, it is not covered. Only telemarketing calls are covered — that is, calls that solicit sales of goods or services. Callers purporting to take a survey, but also offering to sell goods or services, must comply with the National Do Not Call Registry."

I think this is an unfortunate loophole. People who don't want to be bothered at home are not likely going to make a distinction between being sold light bulbs and answering questions about TV viewing habits. It's all under the heading of being bothered.

I called company back in what will probably be a useless attempt to use their opt out. I have also filed complaints of violations of both the federal and Pennsylvania do not called laws.

Second phone call -- rang a couple of times, by the time I picked up, it was dial tone

They called at 9:30 pm on a Sunday. My infant son was asleep. I answered and immediately asked them to take me off their list. They hung up on me. I'm totally disgusted.

I just got my first call from these idiots. I guess I'm the latest member of this club.

Been calling for weeks. Never a msg.

We'll see if I receive any more calls. Apparently the National Registry does not apply to research calls. I suggest that everyone lobby their State Representatives to have this added to the conditions of the Do Not Call Registry.

I have been receiving calls from this number every evening for about a week or more. I just filed a complaint with the DNC Registry.

This afternoon around 1:30, the phone rang twice, but when I answered, there was a dial tone. *69 gave me this number, and Google brought me to this site.

I notice that *many* of the entries here mention that they are on the DNC list. Hubby just signed us up with the national DNC list on Thursday afternoon. This is Monday. Am I paranoid, or is it possible that Magid is actually using the DNC list as a source of phone numbers?

Has anyone who is *not* on the DNC list been called by these people?

I just filed a complaint with the Iowa attorney general. I copied the entire record of complaints from 8/06 to 3/07 when I got called. If this won't work it's time to call 60 minutes / 2020 or inside edition.

After reading all these messages from angry people, I would like to recommend to all of you that, if possible, get yourself some software for your computer that will block calls for you. I am currently using a product called CallWall on my Mac, but there are many available. Google for call blocking software. Software on your computer will allow you to block anything you like, by name, number, whatever. Unlike what the phone company will let you do. Relying on *60 is useless, as you can never block any business numbers. Computer phone blocking software is the way to go. I'm SO happy I invested the $10 in my software. And it's a great feeling to know that after one ring, your computer hangs up on all the idiots who are bothering you... LOL!

I read all of the above messages after I got a call from this number. I had selective call rejection put on my phone by my telephone provider. It allows you to block any number that you want by dialing *60. It costs $3.99 a month, but I was getting so many calls like this it was worth it. TRY IT! Maybe it will help you, too.

Well, the receptionist sent my irate call to a marketing manager.I am convinced that they are legal in the way they operate.He got an earload of my opinion on random phone poles.He understood my concerns but presented a good case as to why they do it this way and why it is legal. The bottom line is that they will be doing this as long as Hillary, Obama, and your mayor can do it.I think they got us beat.lol- fight the good fight boys and girls- Peace- now get that phone before it rings off the damn hook!!!!

This just started a few days ago. FRANK & MAGGIN AS, was on the ID. It looks as if they want to see how many of the "callees" will make a long distance call to tell them to stop calling. Maybe that's their research. Do they get a kickback from our calls? They won't get any from me.

For the past several nights, the phone rings between 8:55pm and 8:57pm - rings 2-3 times and when we go to answer the call, the caller has hung up. Called back and just like Andy said, the message says it is a research company and exempt from the DNC list. Gave our phone number to take off the list - we will see. Why can't the powers-that-be put this guy out of business?

If you can't get them to stop calling and you have VOiP service, do what I do: automatically forward their calls back to them! It's a feature on Lingo.com and DEFINITELY worth it!

They asked to speak to me (my first and last name). I asked how did they get my number they said it was randomly generated. I asked how they got my name if the number was generated randomly and the woman hung up on me. She didn't identify herself.

They have done all of the same things as other callers. Calling numerous times in the same day, then hanging up after the 2nd ring. When I answer they say they are doing a survey. When I tell them we are on a do not call list and want to be removed we continue to get calls. This is harrasment. Can't the FCC help on stuff like this?? I know I got them to help when T-MObile was doing the same thing.

Well they are still calling people with the same way....2-3 rings and then hanging up. Goes on for days. The issue about surveys and being exempt from the FCC and FTC is true as can see below; I took if from the donotcall.gov website. If anyone actually gets to talk to the people ask try and get out of them if they are selling anything. If we can get info that they offer or sell goods then we can advise the FTC/FCC. I just called their main office, 319-377-7345 and told them to take me off their list. I get calls and can't understand the person calling, they call back and hang up. I just had a call and told the woman I run a home based business and didn't have time for this. The lady that answers the main line took my number and was very nice, said she would take me off the list, but it might take a day or so. They are an agency that contracts with other companies to take surveys. The one today was on cable service, but I cut her off. I am sure they turn around and sell the info they get, but who can prove anything anymore with the junkmail and spam stuff that surfaces all the time.
I told her I was writing down the day and time I called and if I got another call, I would report her. I have a brother and sister both who are attorneys and a friend at the Illinois Attorney General's office. Time will tell.

The public will and does demand that this company immediately cease and desist the unscrupulous and irritating practice of "war-dialing", that is, using a computer system to randomly dial numbers. This is an unacceptable practice, as it does frequently access cellular phone numbers, which are charged airtime fees for such calls which are a waste of time, unwarranted, and undesired. This company admits they do not follow the national do-not-call list, and thus does not respect the rights and privacy of the people who pay the bills to maintain telephone and cellular phone service. This is an unscrupulous and predatory practice which is not acceptable, and should stop immediately. Magid needs to revise their business practices so that they do not infringe on the privacy, phone-bills, and peace and quiet of innocent citizens who do not wish such waste-of-time calls to be received. Until this is ceased, I do not accept any "We respect privacy" statement from this shady company. We DO NOT pay cell phone and home phone bills to further this "Market research" company's revenue.

I'm responding to a letter that I received today indicating Frank N. Magid & Associates did not respond in a timely manner to Mr. xxxx's complaint. I assume, based on the letter I received today, notification of this complaint was sent prior to the most recent letter. Unfortunately I can't tell you why someone here did not respond to any such notification, I can only apologize.

In regards to the complaint itself. As a marketing research company we do not compare the random numbers used for our research projects to the national do not call list. However, we do keep an internal do not call list of those households who when contacted indicate that do not want to be called EVER again.

We do respect individuals privacy and do make every effort to stop calling those who wish not to be contacted. In Mr. xxxx's case since his phone number was not included in the letter I could not verify that we added it to our list. I also could not find a specific report online regarding this incident. I did see that we have not responded to two other claims, but did respond to one.

Please let me know how we can correct this on our report.

Yes there is reason to be "unpleasant" with her, and I hope she ends up bankrupted by fines. I called and spoke to a woman who said their autodialer gets stuck and she knows it can be annoying. She took my number and said it would take 24 hours to drop us from their call list. These guys should be shot. OK, that's a little harsh, but they and their ilk are contributing to the decline of the survey industry. When the caller ID does not identify them and their calls become nuisances, people become less likely to respond to legitimate surveys, thereby degrading them. Don't these guys actually hire survey statisticians?
