i got this call this afternoon at 3:49 froo 888-563-0237 said he was with the Illinois Vietnam Veterans asked for money, and i told him i was laidoff for the winter he hung up. it made me mad cause i'm a vet too. so i went on the web.to look them up and explain to them call me in may and we could work something out. and it was like a god send i found your site. thank you so much! my caller id just had the number. and again thank you! this scam has to stop
This phone number is calling to try to SCAM money for the Fraternal Order of Police. I have NOT called the number, nor will I. It directs you to a customer service department that can answer questions using potentially manipulative techniques, help you waste your donation on fundraising fees, or anything else related to the FOP getting a small fraction of your donation, 12% to 27% Some fundraiser's pocket as much as 73% to 90% and up. Also, there’s information on badgefraud.org on the massive numbers of warnings put out by FOP Lodges that do not use so called professional fundraisers and Real Police and Sheriff and Fire Departments. But you can contact them there with any questions or requests.
BadgeFraud (dot) org is doing a lot of really great things for POLICE OFFICERS FAMILIES and the people that post are NOT trying to raise money, they are trying to protect the money of the people who protect us, and that is something very good.
I work for a telemarketing outfit in the midwest that makes calls for a company called "Community Support" - Vietnow Veterans. I am, as most who work there, a recent parolee. Most everyone who works there are undesirables. Many recovering addcts (homeless helters) and fresh ec-cons. It is the last hope stopping plae to get some knid of employment. We also call for various police, veterans, and firefighters, childern's luekemia...and so-called charities. I am not proud of what i do, I do have a conscience. But, it was the only work could obtain with my record. It is a true numbers game...a hunt for the dumb and dumber. It pays $8/hr.. On a good day, I will bring in over $400 dollars in commitments.Of these commitments, a whopping 40% are actually stupid enough to mail a check back to the POBOX when the BILL comes in the mail. It looks like a bill and is very effective - especially with the older seniors...who we prey on especially If i obtain a certain sales quota for the week, I recieve a bonus. A whole extra 25 cents an hour to make my pay $8.25. If I would have a lousy week or two in a row....they fire you. For them, it is all about what $$$ u brught them within the last hour. If u have a bad start to a shift, not making the money that day....they tell u to go home that day after 2 hours. It does not matter what u made yesturday. There is constant turnover. Most telemarketiers last 3 weeks if that. I have somehow worked there for 6 months. We make 400-500 computer asissted calls a shift. As SOON as one call is terminated, within a second u are talking to the next sucker. It is hell. I work in a dirty office basement with 20-30 other people sitting in folding chairs, calling from folding tables...talking loadly into phones...shoulder to shoulder with the next caller. It is so loud, u can't really hear what the callee your talking to is saying 1/2 the time. The scripts are very misleading, making like you have contributed before or in the case of police fundraising...an officer. It is a fine line as to what u can say or not say. U are ALWAYS monitored...constantly. If u are good and bring them money....u can stretch your script to the limit...but never cross a line with obvious lies. However, u need to learn quickly how to resond to questions from "suckers" to not lie, but quickly give the answer they want to hear. In fact, this is the only real "training" a new telemarketer gets...how to sound and say things, but not to say things....to mislead. This, MISLEADING telemarketing, once your a seasoned telemarker, makes the difference in getting a sale or not from the "sucker". Every call is recorded...for the telemarketers protection. We have to give a rebuttal (offer for a less donation after the "sucker" first says no) NO MATTER what. This makes me feel worse. Often, it is an old lady who responds, "Husband just died, I just got out of the hospital, Daughter losng her house" and with tears she says she can't help this year. Yet, I have to continue to harrass her...asking for at least $15. If I don't do this...I am monitored by supervisors (bald, tattoos, piercings, ex-cons also) who will fire u on the spot. So, u become numb to it. U just do what is expected. This telemarketing company takes about 85% of your donation. Do the math from the numbers i spelled out, you can see they do very well for themselves. (The owner was an original disciple of the infamous MITCH GOLD - king of telemarketing in Orange County - he went to federal prison for 8 years for fraud - google it yourself and see.) Well, the other 15% goes to the charity...but remember...THEY have administration expenses themselves...taking most of the little money left. Believe me,they are IF YOU GIVE TO ONE CHARITY....EXPECT TO BE CONTINUALLY HARRASSED.
You will go on a "tap" sucker list....with telemarketers calling u for other donations under umbrella charities. Often the same caller ill call u back in 2 -3 months for another related charlity. They will try to run u as dry as possible, calling u for years, acting like u donated last year for THAT cause...even though your deseased spouse from 5 years ago that may have donated for another "scam" charity. It is mindboggling to me. But as they say, "There is a sucker born every day". God....how true is that!
I am soooo sorry for all the thousands iv'e called. I AM practically homeless with what i get paid ... but without this
DO NOT DONATE to them!!! This is all a shady scam. They pay telemarketers to contact you for various charities and the telemarketers keep 80% of your donation. Contact your state's Attorney General and file a complaint. They are horrible, rude, nasty and unprofessional. They call several times a day from different numbers for different charities. They call for Ill Vietnam Veterans, WIshing Well Foundation, Illinois Disabled Children, DuPage County Sheriff, etc. Also check charitynavigator.org. They have 0 stars and are NOT recommended.
They called today at 6:26 and when I was about to pick up,they hung up on the first ring I reported them and I do not want them to called me again!
I am the past commander of the Vietnam EOD Veterans Assoc and have given to the Illinois Vietnam Veterans Inc for years, until this year. Since I had never come across this group in doing vets assistance or other charity work I decided to check them out and it is all a scam. When I didn't send my pledge in this year they called back and I ask the gal what they did and she rattled off a few things and when I told her I new it was a scam she hung up pronto.
I don't think I would want to piss off a bunch of Vietnam vets and have one of them find me
I have been recieving at least two calls a day from the fraternal order of police asking for a donation. So far I have had no luck in getting them to stop. But here is the most unsetteling thing. I have learned that they are prob. getting your number from the Do Not Call list. They are a not for profit org., so the do not call list does not apply to them. They are also able to purchase numbers from the gov dnc list, which you can actually read on the Do Not Call list disclousures.
I often donate clothes and other items to the Vietnam Vets and have been donating to the Illinois Vietnam Veterans Inc. for a few years. When I spoke to a represenative from the donation program, I told her about a very rude man who called about a late donation. She told me that the Vietnam Veterans do not solicit money donations. Now, I have sent them a $20 check. Who can I contact regarding this scam. My e-mail address is dsrspring@yahoo.com. Thanks,
Good grief, stop already...they don't even respond when I answer. I'd like to kick someone in the balls for this crap!
They had called two other times - wanting a donation - I asked them to MAIL me a donation request.
It didn't come. They said they had sent it twice. I asked for an address to mail my donation to - they wouldn't provide one. Sound vary fishy to me. I tried to look thwem up on the Web - nothing but this site.
Are they legit??
There are a lot of FOP Lodges. The 41 is out of Springfield, IL
They call daily. Caller ID says Unknown Name, Unknown Number. They act as if they know my husband, as a friend, but I know better. We dealt with these guys back in Colorado. Now, the calls have followed us to Illinois. In Colorado they used to harass me terribly when I refused to give money. My husband made the mistake of giving once and we cannot get off of their list. They call each day, I usually don't pick up. If I do, sometimes they hang up, once in a while ask for my husband (pretending to be a friend) and I say, "This is the fraternal order of police isn't it?" Then, they hang up. I want to know how to get the calls to STOP period. One time I asked them to take us off the list, but that didn't work, they keep calling.
I called the number Luthien S. put up here (217-328-0103). The man I talked to was very polite and took my information and said that he's apologizes for any inconvenience. This is very unlike the guy that continues to call my place of work asking for my boss. I had no idea who it was, and he scared the hell out of my the first couple times. Hopefully this works and I won't be hearing from him again but we'll see. Good luck to the rest of you.
I told him to send me stuff, and he said "don't hold your breath".
Does anyone know who calls from 847-626-9589 and ids themselves as viet nam vets.
If it is helpful to any internet searchers to stop these idiots from calling your residence numerous times a day the phone number posted is for the Illinois area, but still call because they will fax the message to the central headquaarters to have you placed on the Do Not Call List! I just got off the phone with a supervisor by the name of RANDY! Maybe I will not be annoyed anymore!
These organizations need to stop being anonymous when calling homes, to add to injury they place numerous phone calls a day. I have estimated two to four times a day, please....stop!
Fraternal order of police keep calling even after being told i am not donating any money. Can I get a donation? I can barely pay my bills and they want money. The least they can do is respect me when I say no and stop calling. they make good money. No menas no!
This is yet another tentacle of Xentel DM: pownetwork.org
I live in NE and the calls just keep coming. I emailed the local FOP and they assured me the number would be removed. The calls keep coming. They ask for my wife and when I tell them to remove me from the list, the harassment begins. They just keep asking for her and giggle like they're 15 and disobeying their mother. Who do you call to report this ingrates for harassment?
I called this number to remove me from the do not call list.

I never answer numbers of unknown origin.
This moron has been calling my house for about a month, often several times a day. He asks for my husband by name, as though he's a long lost friend, as though my husband would befriend such an imbecile. He persisted despite my husband's request that he stop, and when I (not so politely) demanded he stop calling, he then attempted to circumvent me and reach my husband by blocking his number. His oops. We have privacy manager. :)
So when Privacy Manger insists the caller provide his identity, he shouted, "[Name], PICK UP THE PHONE."
Unreal. As though his harassing insults would finally charm my husband into picking up the phone and siding with an idiotic stranger over his own wife.
Lo.Ser.
These people call constantly ans ask for me and I either don't answer or my husband says I am not here. Have answered and they are Vietnam vets....They just called a little bit ago and my husband said I am not here. This is like harrassment.
Sry if any of this is redundant:
Okay these bastards have a weak point: their heart.
The 4300 number is a fake number that they use through the government to make it difficult for them to be tracked by us.
The FOP is a political fundraising organization and therefore are exempt from the Do Not Call List.
If you want these calls to stop like I did and you live in Illinois, call 217-328-0103 which is their headquarters in Urbana and just ask them to take you off their list. They will get a little bit of your info to verify and you will be off it in 72 hours. If not, then report them to the FCC. :) Hope this helps.
Allowed answering machine to pick up. No message left
Well they called me for the second time and were again, rude. I reported them for violating the national do not call list. What is wrong with these people?
Please stop calling for money, don't have any myself. Thank you.
I recieved a call telling me it was a fund raiser for ILLINOIS VIET NAM VETERANS.I asked for a phone number, which he gave me. I then told him I was with Viet Now and we have our own fund raisers. He thanked me and hung up.
I also got a call New Year's day. If I pick it up it hangs up. I also filed a complaint on Do Not Call List. I think they've called before.
They called three times on News years Day! I didn't answer, found this site - thanks.
They are very persistent. I think they've called my house 20 times. We have callerid and just do not answer.
They hung up on me when I answered the phone.
The Illinois FOP has a real office in Western Springs Illinois. Call them and ask if they do telemarketing from that 309 number.
(708) 784-1010
Probably a scam. A Google search for this phone number matches it to one on an ISP's dial-up number list. Free Internet Connection dot com. It's hard to believe that any reputable organization would have an ISP's dial-up number as their own. They're probably spoofing the Caller-ID box with this bogus number.
If by chance this is really the FOP looking for donations, reporting them to the FTC for a DNC violation would be useless. Non-profits are exempt from the Do Not Call list. I played it safe and reported them anyway.
This has to be a phone scam. I can't believe the FOP would use such tactics.
I reported them for violating the national do not call list. This is the second time they have tried to call me. I reported them both times.
This retard called with a smoker's hack and a redneck tone to his voice and then hung up when I asked who is calling. If this the FOP then I don't want to have anything to do with Bloomington Police. But then, I never did anyway!
Wow talk about RUDE! Just got a call to donate money for the Veterans Fund....I told him I was sorry, but had already given this season to organizations of my choice and he got mad and hung up. I'm a poor college student with NO money, what a jerk!!!!!
These guys findout your name and then call and ask for you as if they were your personal friend and they've know you for years. If you ask who's calling, they will say something like: "Tell him it's Tim". An unsuspecting spouse then thinks it is a legitimate personal call and passes the call to their spouse when usually they shield each other from pesky phone solicitors. These Frat order of police call are unusually skilled and use every technique in the book (compassion, fear, dominance, u name it) to get you to fork over some cash.
They called me at 11:22am for the first time. I am a new home owner and the first 30 days here has been nothing but telemarketers.
Thanks, John. There oughta be a law.....
This is the Fraternal Order of Police Fund Raising call number, in Bloomington, IL
