DON'T FALL FOR THIS!

Whoever these people are, they are not us. Financial institutions NEVER call asking you for your account number or PIN... EVER! They already know everything about you, except your PIN.

If you get a call like this for your institution, especially after hours and from an automated system, hang up and call them when they are open.

If you entered your information, call and have you card cancelled, IMMEDIATELY! You will get a new card. If you don't, you can lose your money.

Called on 1/25/09 at 9:28 p.m. Recording in man's voice said it was my credit union, but I don't belong to one. I was told that my ATM account was suspended due to fraud and that if I wanted to reactivate the ATM card, I needed to press 1. I hung up.

302-286-5252 This is a Hoax! It's an attempted credit card scam! The machine just called my house and claimed to be from a local credit union that I don't even have an account with. The female voice on the other end stated that my ATM account was suspended due to fraud and that if I wanted to reactivate the card, then I needed to press 1 immediately. I pressed 0 to try to get to talk to someone to let them know they had the wrong number and then the machine asked for a 16 digit credit card number. Pressed 0 again, just said the same thing. Punched in 6666666666666666 and a British Man's voice stated that the number I keyed in was incorrect. I'm in Louisiana, NOT England! Tried to use *57 to report it, and it didn't work. Obviously the number is being spoofed. Will be reporting it to the authorities and FTC immediately! I suggest that everyone else do the same, so they can track down who this is and arrest them.

Call came in at 2:56 a.m. Same story -- security problem with card; press "1" to reactivate. Hung up. Very angry that this can continue to go on. Why can't the FCC put a stop to this?

2008-12-03 06:02:40 UTCdebbie

The call came in just before midnight, with an automated voice informing me that my card had been temporarily suspended and that to reactivate it I needed to enter my 16 digit card number.

After waking us at 12:41 in the morning, a recording from a company whose name I did not catch (but a credit union or bank of some sort) repeatedly asked for me to input our 16-digit credit card number so our account could be "immediately reactivated." There was never an option to connect to a person despite my waiting thru about 6 requests for our info. They indicated early in the call that we would be asked to input "3 pieces of information" for our account. I sat there until they disconnected us. Caller ID from Newark, DE

They called my fax line around midnight and at 3 AM called my home phone. I did not answer the calls

Scam Call for the Chesterfield Credit Union. Card/account has been deactivated. Press 1 to reactivate.
Chesterfield County Police Department, Chesterfield VA, is working on this.

Named a bank in town and card needed reactivating. I use the other bank in town and don't use a bank card.

They left no message so I checked here first but no info. I Googled it and came up with several hits. All stating it was fraud. They will say your credit card has been used in a possible fraud and they need some additional info from you. Most of the dates associated with the calls I could find in my search have been in the last few months with most being in the Northern Midwest but obviously from my zip they have moved south.

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
