The information I found was this is a MTS Allstream number. However they claim it is a Primus number. Regardless it is not a Victoria B.C company and not subject to the do not call list...... DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFO. YOU MAY END UP WITH A $1999.00 charge on your "new" credit card.

a post on 800 notes at this number said they also got calls from 800-736-7608. Don't know if related but here's the info on 800-736-7608 which is listed here:fa.smithbarney.com

Laury,

I've pressed "1" a couple of times to speak to live agents, but both times they've hung up on me when I complained. That's why I contacted PhoneBusters. However, almost a month later, I'm still receiving these calls. This is probably due to them being a U.S.-based company, despite Caller ID showing a phone number with a B.C., Canada area code. It's very easy to spoof such things.

As for additional charges, I don't think you have to worry unless you gave them any credit card info. Getting that info seems to be their main goal. But, if you do see any odd charges on your phone bill, then contact your phone company immediately and tell them that you're a victim of a kind of fraud called "cramming". For an explanation, see: en.wikipedia.org)

Call just came in from this number. Name unknown so I did not pick up. No voicemail message.

It asked me to press 1, which I did, now I'm afraid of a phone scam, I called Bell telephone and they directed me to Phone Busters, they couldn't take my call as they were too busy, please call again.... DARN! Has anyone pressed 1 and had additionnal charges on their phone bill?

Same old credit card scam, usually recognise the old number, but this is the first time they have used a local number.

Just rang up my home phone; didn't answer because I didn't recognize the number.

2010-02-22 20:43:59 UTCWindsorGirl

Oops I didn't sign in, but yeah, this one has called me a lot so I was about to answer because the number is starting to look familiar. But all long distance people I know who called are programed into my phone and I noticed this one simply said Long Distance (250) 412-8815 ...

2010-02-22 20:41:02 UTCWindsorGirl

Just called at 3:40pm EST .. rang 4 times and hung up when got the machine. So I looked it up. Glad I didn't answer.

Just got a call from them... pressed "1" and got a real person..... told them to take me off the f&^%ing call list and hung up. They have been rude to me one to many times, so it was my turn. I will do the same each time they call until they put "ME" on "Their" Do Not Call list.

2010-02-18 19:31:32 UTCPeter

They are rude and vulgar! Hope someone stops this sort of marketing!

As Raymond says, this appears to be a phishing attempt to gain credit card numbers and birth dates.

Reported to the RCMP (via (PhoneBusters.com).

GOT A SUGGESTION....
CALL THE "FRENCH LANGUAGES POLICE"...IF YOU RESIDE IN QUEBEC...
CRTC CAN'T TOUCH THEM, CAUSE THE CALL IS FROM U.S.
RCMP CAN'T TOUCH THEM, CAUSE THEY ARE NOT DOING ANY PHYSICALLY HARM ON YOU.
BUT IF YOU LIVE IN QUEBEC, THEY ARE DEAD....
"FRENCH LANGUAGES POLICE" WILL HUNT THEM DOWN....CAUSE THEY ARE DOING SALES PITCH IN ENGLISH.
ALSO, CALL "CANADA REVENUE AGENCY", THEY DON'T HAVE A GST REGISTRATION TO DO BUSINESS IN CANADA.

"This is an important call regarding your current credit card account..." That is where I hung up. Sounded like a recording.
Based on earlier info about the same scam (not using the same outgoing phone number), these people are fishing for credit card number (they do not know your credit card numbers but they talk as if they did, then ask you to "confirm" that their info is correct)

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:
