I got a call from them a couple weeks ago, it was about doing community mailers for the American Diabetes Association which they said I had agreed to do, didn't recall that but my mother does have it. Sounded legit so I said they could send me their information. Then they started calling again, last night at 9 pm. So I called them today and got an automated response that allowed me to request my number be removed, which I did. They said they have up to 30 days to remove it but will try to do so in a couple days. We'll see.

2011-06-30 01:25:54 UTCnblisa

They did not leave a message.

The consistent name on my caller ID is "ADA".Tis caller calls most every day except Sundays from different phone numbers which are: There is no message.Just a phone call and then a hang up, everytime.

Called 6/17/11. Picked up phone on 2nd ring and person on other end hung up. Will report to Calif attorney general.

They call at least once a day, I have told them to stop calling. I get calls from several numbers and don't normally answer them. We don't answer numbers that are not familiar to us. Thanks to the person who suggested the blocking feature on the Panasonic phones. I got the book out and set my phone to block what ADA numbers are on there as well as some others and the no number shown calls as well.

As suggested by others in this thread, the dirty secret is that the calls are placed by a commercial fundraiser, such as Dial America, Harris, InfoCision, and MDS. Not sure which one has the Diabetes account now, but ADA has been a repeat client of InfoCision, the giant Akron telepest known for aggressive tactics. See more discussion under this number: 9018819984

Still the calls are exempt from Federal DNC under the charity status, even though such call centers are very much for-profit and pocket most of what these periodic campaigns collect. At times the "charity" group is itself a profit enterprise, compounding the deception. However, as commercial entities, commercial fundraisers are expected to honor an internal no-call list and add any number upon request. Break that order, the FTC declares, and "the telemarketer may be subject to a fine of up to $16,000."

File complaints with the FTC and attorneys general, and the charity group doing the hiring. When the boiler room calls, try getting on a master "no-call" list for all of that firm's charity clients.

A charity call campaign must usually be cleared through some agency or regulator in your state, and many states make activity reports available online. They often reveal a specified period of weeks or months in which the group is permitted to solicit, sometimes tracking well with the observations on these call forums. Find those reports and you'll find one more desk to advise of your displeasure.

Call every other day including Sunday. They don't seem to be a legitimate representative of the American Diabetes Association. Probably hired by ADA to generate donations.

2011-03-28 14:11:35 UTCBD

I have had numerous calls from 240-210-7102, but have never been able to get them to stay on the line long enough to speak with them. Today, they did - it's a service representing the American Diabetes Assn asking you to do a mailout to your neighbors asking for contributions. I asked her to please take me off their list and she said they would. She was very pleasant. Let's hope they really do remove me this time since I have asked this before.

2011-02-16 18:39:35 UTCBoog Snott

ADA us a debt collection related business pretending to be somebody else (i.e. a charity). That is obviously the reason that they will not talk to other people besides the one mentioned. People like these will be dealt with harshly when the time comes. Too bad we won't see it. Would not want to be the callers or business owners of ADA.

2011-02-10 16:12:44 UTCDoug

Check your phone to see if you can block calls, my phone (Panasonic) holds up to 30 numbers. I check the number on the who called list, if it's a number I don't want calling me I add it to the block numbers on my phone. This has been great! The phone rings once, says blocked call and stops, the other end gets a busy signal. Some companys have more than one number, keep blocking them! Your phone manual tells you how to block the calls.

2011-02-03 16:11:09 UTCDerek

Called and hung up after I introduced..how rude

2010-08-02 16:29:38 UTCcathy

Has been calling several times - sounds like a computer generated call and no way to stop it?

2010-07-13 18:20:50 UTCDone with it

I called the American Diabetes Assoc (800-342-2383) and told the customer service rep what was going on. She apologized and said she could take me off of the list. The ADA farms out fundraising calls to telemarketers. That was over 1 week ago and they are still calling. Now I am reporting each phone call to the FCC (donotcall.gov) and let's see if that helps.

2010-07-09 03:54:44 UTCCindy

I am getting a daily call from different phone numbers which caller ID identifies as ADA. They are very annoying calls because as soon as my answering machine picks up, I get a loud hang up tone. Most calls are early in the morning around 9am and a few in the afternoon and early evenings. So far I only seem to get one per day. I think that next time I get a call I will pick up and find out who is calling. I just can't imagine this is a good way to get donations if that is the case. This just does not seem legitimate after reading other enteries on this site. Thanks to all who have written about ADA phone calls on this website.

2010-07-08 23:37:05 UTCFred

I have been getting daily calls from "ADA" as identified by caller ID. Began about 10 days ago. I never answer the phone and they (or it) never leaves a message. Calls are at different times of day. I'm guessing that it's from the American Diabetes Assoc. But after reading other comments, I'm wondering if it's a scam. Thank goodness for caller ID. Now, if I don't recognize a number or name, I don't answer it. If it is legitimate, they will leave a message, not to worry. Always use the DRIDA system: Don't Recognize It, Don't Answer!

2010-07-08 03:52:15 UTCFrancesca

Just received a call from 240-210-7102, I didn't recognize the number so just ignored it, which lead me to your site. So I'm not the only one. I wouldn't give to any organization who hires a bank of telemarketers, this is
harassment. If I find out that my phone number is being sold by some organization that I have contributed to I
will stop contributing. What is wrong with these people that they can't get an honest job?

2010-07-07 17:19:32 UTCMaddy

Got a call from 240-210-7102 today. Caller ID said ADA. Three rings, then a hangup.
So annoying. I think Caller ID is the best invention since sliced bread. I am on the "do not call" list, but I think charities are exempt(if this is a charity). I would never donate to anyone through a phone call..I always donate online at the charity's secure website using my credit card...and I chose who I want to donate to.

2010-07-07 17:06:05 UTCAnne

Rude woman insisted on speaking to someone. When I refused to pass the call to the people she asked for, she was rude and said she would call back.

2010-07-07 15:11:36 UTCCarol

I called the ADA and told them I did not want any mail or phone calls from them---when I told them I had been getting calls from them everyday with different phone numbers---they did not deny and offered to take me from mailing and put me on no call list within 24 hours---guess we will wait and see. (1-800-342-2383).

2010-07-06 16:08:44 UTCJane

They also call from:

571-261-0106
434-878-9983
410-202-0108

2010-07-05 01:31:52 UTCDF

See Robs comments below. I get this ADA call on a regular basis, but at different times and differnt caller ids including: 703-291-9032; 571-261-0106; 434-878-9983; 301-223-0109; and 410-202-0108.

2010-06-10 23:52:51 UTCLynCoo

I receive MANY calls from this number. I called it back and they give their sales pitch saying they are "American Diabeties Assocation" and they tried to contact me, no answer and will call back. I called back 703-291-9032, 301-223-0109 and 410-202-0108 and it's the SAME guy on the recording with the same message saying they are the American Diabeties Association. I called ADA and these calls are NOT coming from ADA. If you receive any recorded calls saying they are ADA please call ADA and let them know the number and the state listed (on caller ID). The number to call is: 800-342-2383. They are turning in all of these bogus numbers to their legal department. This is a crummy thing to do to such a worthy cause as ADA.

2010-06-08 13:41:54 UTCCap

No one answers me when I answer the phone! Who are they and what do they want? How do we get them to stop calling?

2010-04-20 23:43:59 UTCLee Smith

I get calls from ADA from 6 or 7 different numbers. They ring three times and they are driving me crazy.

2010-04-08 16:10:03 UTCJackie

A cell phone number and no one answered. We, too, are receiving ADA calls as well as the cell# several times a week using different #'s! We are on a do not call list and am getting sick and tired of these calls! Today is the first we answered thinking it may be family or a business call. It is annoying to have these calls at all hours of the day and evening!

2010-04-02 00:30:49 UTCEllen

This is the first call I've gotten from this group. I wasn't home and they didn't leave a message. It's not one of the groups I give to (too many other diseases in the family) so I don't know how they got my number (not that any number is a secret anymore).

2010-03-11 02:51:22 UTCDW

In past week, 6 calls from "ADA", every one a different area code & number.
Also: 571-261-0106, 410-202-0108, 703-291-9032, 434-878-9983, 301-223-0109
Does not leave message, hang up.

2010-03-08 15:26:54 UTCJerry

THe ADA and others charities try to solicit multiple donations. I, too made a mail contribution to this charity last year. They have called me at least a dozen times within the last month. I suggest sending a little note stating that if they do not remove you from their calling list, you will stop contributing.

2010-02-24 14:21:03 UTCRob

This is a telemarketers number supposedly for the American Diabetes Association (ADA). We give to this organization via the mail, so we are uncertain why we are on a telemarketing list. So far we have identified at least 6 different telemarketing numbers (including the one above)that are from the same organization - each having a different city/state I.D. Also,we are suspicious of any organization that uses such telephone tactics. Here are the other numbers: 703-291-9032; 571-261-0106; 434-878-9983; 301-223-0109; and 410-202-0108.

2010-01-27 16:10:04 UTCMHF

ADA has a poor rating by Charity Navigator: CEO paid ~ $400,000 per year! Irritating persistent phone calls!!!!!

2010-01-15 03:01:08 UTCMH

No message

2010-01-14 17:56:07 UTCScott

We have had several calls from them. Sometimes it comes up ADA, sometimes as a cell number.
I answered once. It is the American Diabetes Association, or at least that's the name they gave when I answered. They asked for my wife, and would not speak to me.
Seems shady to me.

2009-09-30 15:37:09 UTCKRIS

They have been calling every single day (day and night) for the past few weeks- under a series of different numbers, but caller id always shows- ADA . They never leave a message. We never pick up and they dont give up.Honestly- don't they get the message (US NEVER PICKING UP).How naive can one be? Do they think after all this phone harrassment we will donate to them???

2009-09-24 23:41:31 UTCSamantha

This caller has phoned my house about three times a week for the past several weeks. They never leave a message.

2009-09-19 22:54:08 UTCLee

ADA, huh? I'm averaging a couple of calls a day that show up here as ADA, and every one seems to be from a different number. If they'd spend some of their fund-raising money to actually help folks with diabetes think what they could accomplish!

2009-08-31 19:36:54 UTCStone

I wonder if it is the American Diabetes Assoc. I had calls from them a few days ago.

This caller left no message.

2009-08-19 23:02:53 UTCMike

Wow. These scumbags have all kinds of numbers.

2009-08-14 15:29:34 UTCsdr

Idiots called 4 times yesterday using 4 different numbers. Reported to fcc.gov.

2009-08-13 22:54:27 UTCheide

First call I got today, one of so many scammers I don't even look at the phone to answer it. I let the machine do the work.

2009-08-13 22:46:19 UTCMike

Why the need to change the number already?

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker:

Click for call blocker
