I recv'd this call and answered it. There was no one there. Also underneath the 2137971040 was another number 757-209-2038.

Got a call today shows 1-757-209-2038. Same name as Cola below "dial 213-797-1040. I picked up - no one there and I hung up. I also reported to esupport.fcc.gov.

Got a call 05/09/09 caller ID shows 1-757-209-2038 name: "Dial 213-797-1040". No message. We have this going on now with all kinds of different numbers. I am getting concerned!

Got a call, dead air when answered. Caller ID showed phone number as 1-757-209-2038 and also had "Dial 213-797-1040" Called 213 number and got a "Leave message". Reported to Feds esupport.fcc.gov.

Same as all below. I went to esupport.fcc.gov and filed a complaint as I have been through this before with another annoying number. Hopefully, if all who receive that call file a complaint, something will be done.

Got called two times by a (213)-797-4954, as for Rick, no background sound, and I'm not in the US...

The fact that over 300 people have taken the time and effort to comment on their experiences on this web site suggests (to me) the existence of a very widespread attempted scam of some sort. In my case, I never hear anything - no background noise, no "breathing" not even a "click" indicating the incoming call(er) has terminated the call. This is clearly much more than a mere "nuisance" and privacy invasion. Some entity is going through a lot of trouble to conceal its identity and purpose. Unfortunately, what we all DO know is that the entity/people responsible have nothing but nefarious purposes with their "scheme".

I note that a couple of responders have provided an e-mail to lodge a complaint with the FCC.

I am extremely curious as to whether anyone has contacted the FCC and what, if anything, their response has been.

This number called and on the 3rd ring I picked up. I answer my phone in a foreign language so as to deter sales. As I did this, caller hung up. I too am on the Do Not call List. ID listed what looked like two number 213-797-1040 757-209-2038 in that order.

SCAMMER ???? Sales??? I'm on the Do Not Call list. Why are they bothering me?

They called 1:15pm (Mountain Time) on Saturday 1-17-09. They immediately hung up when I answered the phone. They've called before and have done the same thing. Caller I.D. says, "Los Angeles, CA". When I tried calling them back an automated answered immediately and only said "please leave a message".

They called my cell and I answered and they hung up. These screwballs call at least 2 times each week and just hang up. Is this some type of database that is verifying cell and home numbers to sell to spammers??? I am on the do not call list but apparently that does not mean much these days.

Same thing happened today, Jan. 19, they hang up and you get a recording when you call back. I am on state and federal no call lists too.

As previously stated, please report these to the esupport.fcc.gov website. Should they receive enough of these messages, perhaps something can be done.

I would also think that they could be reported to AT&T for these types of calls.

I'm on the DNC list and don't want to receive calls from this number or any other solicitors.

Our household seems to be getting more and more of these types of calls. No message left. No identifying name appeared.

213-797-1040 called. When we answered the phone, they hung up. We have a do-not-call number that 213-797-1040 violated also. Called back and rec'd a v/m greeeting..left message that i'm on the d/n/c list with my phone # so they can remove me if this is the case.

This number called me on 12/20/08. I find it interesting because my Bank called me the same day to inform me that some had attempted to steal my identity and change my banking address to a location in CA....Be aware.

Dead air when answered. I filed a complaint with the FCC and the national Do Not Call Registry.

When I answer phone there is no one there and I believe the line is dead. So this is just a nuisance!

Called our business at 6:15pm and there was no one there when I answered. We get hang-ups several times a week. Not sure why. It is annoying especially at the business as we have to stop to answer.

They have called many, many times leaving a message saying they are debt collectors. Nobody here owes money such as late payments or unpaid bills.

I got a call from this # at 8:39 pm on Thanksgiving day. Rude. I am also on the do not call list.

I was also contacted on Thanksgiving Day. Reported the number to the Do Not Call Registry complaint form. Thank you for sending the link, JayBee (donotcall.gov helpful info. Our phone service is through Vonage as well. Don't know if this has anything to do with it but it seems others have had the same problem.

Got the call Thanksgiving evening 2008 8:45pm. From 213-797-1040 of course they hung up! Caller id says unknown name. Is it something to do with the IRS last digits 1040? Scary...

This caller called on Sunday 10/26/08 at 6:11pm. When I answered, they hung-up!

Have calls on my cell and then on my son's cell and then on my home phone also. This isn't the first time I have gotten calls from these fools. We are also on the do not call list for our home phone and both cells.

This number has called me several times in the past. Today I called back received voice mail and left message. Then decided to look it up and found this site. Who can we contact to get these nuts. Oh and I am on do not call also.

This number called us at about 3:30 pm. I called back three times and got the same response. I'm pretty sure someone is actually on the other end who just picks up the phone and hangs up again. I can hear noise in the background. I suggest that we all call at a specific time and flood their system.

Also on the DNC list; received call on 24 October at 21:00. Caller ID showed the number and Los Angeles. This is not the first time a call came in from this number. Like Junk Mail and Spam, something should be done about this, though right now we have more serious crises that require our focus...

I think this is an auto dialer of some type. Called my office at 1:50 on a Saturday. A few hours the same number called my home- which is unlisted. However, both my office & home numbers are through Vonage..possibly a connecdtion there? Vonage has been known to make customer cervice calls.
Like everyone else, when I answered there was no one there. If everyone complains to the FTC they will get shut down...same thing happened to the world's largest spammer- he's GONE!! Yeah!

They called my business line on 10/18 @ 9 pm! Who calls a business at 9:00pm on a Saturday to sell something? Then they called my cell phone at 9:00am on Sunday! Both numbers are listed on the do not call list. We are obviously wasting our money on the "do not call" me list!

This number has been calling my home and started on my cell phone this morning (Sunday)! I also am on the national "do not call list", and I pay every month to my home phone carrier to have an unpublished number. There has to be something someone can do. It's the same thing, I answer - they hang up. If you do the call back, it's a direct to a mailbox! HELP! This has been going on at my home now for months. I can't imagine the purpose, but I don't have criminal thoughts. Someone must have an idea why someone would do this?

I have received numerous calls from this number they never leave a message when I am not at home and when I answered the phone today they hung up. Reverse look up tells you that it’s a number from Los Angeles CA and the service provider is AT & T. It is very annoying and we need the option to block these types of calls since we are registered on the do not call list but most companies don't follow the rules and call you anyway. We get calls sometimes as late as 9PM from this number, I don’t even call friends at this time of night since most working people do like do have a quiet evening.
