I am an employee at Basstel. We feel bad that we have to call you at home, but unfortunantly we have to make a living just like everyone else. Some of us are in school, others are older, and for others, this is their job. I understand that it's frustrating getting three or four calls a weeks, and trust me when I say, that we notice it too, and think its dumb! But if you just ask us to take you off of our Do Not Call list, we will...unless it's someone who decides to be rude and not do it. We get your number from the newspaper companies we sell for, so please don't get upset with us, maybe you should talk to the national post, globe and mail..etc.

We are a promotions office, just doing what were told. It would be nice if you didn't scream, or swear, or even be the least bit rude, because in all honesty, how would you like for us to come to your place of work and give you the same courtesy. Or even imagine if it was your daughter,son,wife,mother,father..you get the picture.

just received a call asking to pay for my toronto sun subscription, when i told them i just mailed in the payment 2-days ago, and also wouldn't give my credit card info anyway, they hung up on me...

They've phoned everyday at noon for the last week and a half. I assume that they want to either sell me another newspaper subscription (I already subscribe to one of their papers), or they have some other promotion going on.

However, I guess I'll never find out what they want. I'm not usually home at noon, and they only leave dead air on my answering machine. But, due to the fact that we have a "prior business relationship", I'll probably keep getting these calls for the foreseeable future.

Basstel phoned a few minutes before noon today, but nobody answered when I picked up. I could hear people talking in the background for a few seconds, but that's it. Pretty odd.

Even odder is that they would be calling on the first Monday of August, which is a civic holiday in B.C. I never would have expected to get a telemarketing call while enjoying a long weekend. But, perhaps I can excuse them since they're in Manitoba and may not know about it.

The final thing is that I'm already a Vancouver Sun subscriber. My office has a Vancouver Province subscription under my name. So, technically, we have a "prior business relationship". However, trying to sell me multiple subscriptions to either the Sun or Province seems fruitless.

I've received a phone call from this number every day for the past seven days at all hours throughout the day. When answering the number, all I hear is a click and then the line goes dead. It is from Basstel advertising newspaper sales.

Keeps calling even though I have answering machine and on the do not call list.

got a call from 204-927-2271 about 1/2 hour ago, didn't answer it, looked it up on teh intarwebs, this site popped up, found the phone number (204-927-2277), called it, talked to someone named Mark, was very polite, asked him to take my number off the 'call list', and he replied that he would, thanked me, and hung up.

just call the number and ask, they'll do it.

Why is this company conducting unsolicited telemarketing - newspaper services no less for an are miles away from where I live - no wonder they are in financial trouble if this is how their marketing is conducted...

1)Basstel is a promotion office used by newspapers. They work on be-half of the newspapers. So for the person who said the paer sells your info!! NOT TRUE
2)Basstel hires people from all walks of life.They do not prey on anyone, I worked there for a short time and met some great people.

3)They do not take you off any list at all!!!!!...If you ask them they put you on their own Do Not Call list,when they recieve calling material they scrub their D.N.C. list aganist it. Resulting in the numbers being removed.
4) And please by all means call them every name in the book. That you would call your own Mother,Father,Brother,Sister,Aunt or Uncle.
Thats who the T.S.R's are someone's child, parent or relative.

Today I picked up the phone and the person was offering a quite good deal to change my Sunday's Toronto Sun subscription to 7 days a week. I declined and the person wished me a good summer.

We don't know you, we really don't want to be calling you at dinner or any other inconvient time, actually we would perfer you to call us but unfortunatly like everyone else in the world we need to make a living. You may have a great top notch job but in all reality most employees at basstel are university students trying to get through school. There are also Highschool students try to make some extra money and enjoy life. We do not mean to bother you or interupt your day, and we really have no control over who or when we call. Our job is simply to ask you if you want a newspaper subscription and if not enter it into our computer. Deleting you from the calling list is not something we overly have a say in all though we would like to think we do.

I would also like to add how come many people think its alright to yell at us, call us names and treat us as if we aren't people. There are many other things in the world alot worse then phone calls that we could be doing. Graffiti, drug trafficing, or even car stealing, all of which would make us better money but dishonest money.

Word Of Advice: The nicer you are to us the more we will do all we can to stop calling you... Talk to a supervisor they've got all the power and they are always there.

Please think next time you pick up a telemarketing call. I have seen many people in tears from whats being said on the other line. For what a phone call to stop that the telemarketer has no control over?

Geez!! Not again! They were calling us every day, sometimes twice in a day in Dec & Jan. Then it stopped for a while until now. But I have noticed in the last couple years this newspaper call centre does start calling us (past subscribers) just before the hockey play-offs.......too bad were not in it. :(

this is a workplace that by-passes most labour laws, run much like a sweatshop, and its staff consists mostly of vulnerable workers, often with serious mental issues. If you are rude or ignorant, most of them will ignore any requests and you will receive numerous calls. you should feel sorry for these people and outraged that a company like this is allowed to operate the way it does. its not a scam, just a precarious employment situation where the staff are paid so poorly they could just care less

I've been called by this number once a day all week and about the same time. Each time I was able to answer the phone on time and all I get is either silence or the sound of someone breathing. WTF!!! I can't block it because my cell doesn't have that feature.

I get at least two calls a day from this number. When I pick up, I can hear breathing and a TV or radio in the background and then they hang up. Its creepy!

204-927-2271 is the dialout # for a telemarketing company that sells newspapers. you can call them back at 204-927-2277 and get removed. Apparently the Vancouver Sun and Province SELL OUT your number.

Just thankful for this site. I worked as a telemarketer for a month and hated every living second of it. I think all telemarketing should be banned. Saw a voicemail from these guys on my VoIP phone portal and googled the number.. found this page. :) I called their voice line and asked to be removed from their database, the guy on the other end was friendly enough, confirmed the phone number I wanted removed and asked if there were any other phones in the house I wanted removed (thanks, not about to give you my cell numbers!) We'll see if they stop; I have them set to automatically forward back to themselves if they try calling again. :)

Another way since it is the Globe and Mail, I would contact the owner/publisher or go to the Globe and Mail website and find the CONTACT US section, EMAIL ANYONE AND EVERYONE and state that since they have these goofs calling you over and over that you would NEVER EVER SUBSCRIBE to their paper!!!!!!!!!

Finally I answered and it was someone who couldnt even speak english, now I just answer and slam the phone, but this doesnt seem to work.
A friend of mine told me they are only allowed to call a certain number 3 times a week and you are supposed to pick up and hang up and that way it is registered with them.

I then called the edmonton journal asked for David Aspers (national post chairman)home number so I could call and harass him, they refused so I canceled my subscription to the Journal (owned by the post). I had been contemplating adding the national post digital subscription, guess I have more time for yard work now.

I did as Dave suggested and called 204-927-2277 to request my number be taken off the list. The woman who answered was actually quite friendly, apologized, and agreed to take it off. We'll see whether they keep calling.

I have been getting one call a day for the past two weeks they say "Hellow" followed by my first name then hang-up.

A male voice said "Hello, hello, hello" on my answering machine.

It's either Basstel or this number. I have a policy of saying "Hello" and if I don't get an immediate answer, hang up (telemonkeys are usually autodialling and it takes a second to realise there's a human there.)

I get calls quite often, no message on voicemail; the callerid just says "Manitoba". Hope they are enjoying the cold.

Not speak when we answered the phone.. staged a fight after we picked up, that sort of thing. Get creative! Try selling THEM something! Speak in a different language!
