Paetec is now saying that ccAdverising is spoofing the number 202 461 3442 and they cannot be responsible for ccAdvertising use of the number. Spoofing isn't illegal, to my knowledge. But Paetec is passing the buck; they have a customer who provided ccAdvertising their (PAETEC's owned) number 202 461 3442. PAETEC, in their conversation with me, was pathetic and refused to do anything because they claim their number was being spoofed by ccAdvertising. 1) after reviewing ccAdvertising dubious history, I'm appalled that Lamar Smith would use this company. 2) It's my understanding that Lamar Smith's and his staff's cell phone numbers are available for purchase, just as ccAdvertising purchased YOUR CELL PHONE numbers ---with your taxpayers' dollars. 3) This abuse can be stopped if we insist that cell phones can be included in the DO NOT CALL List for political calls; call your legislator 4)complain to the Franking Commission, 202 225 2061, who approved of Lamar Smith's calling cell phones on taxpayers' dollars and who approved of Lamar Smith's "script," including the lack of identification when Lamar Smith's contractor, PAID BY TAXPAYERS, left voice mail messages to cell phones. Lamar Smith was to use his best knowledge to PREVENT calls to non-constituents; he DID NOT! That lack of deligence violates the use of taxpayer money. Lamar Smith used taxpayer money erroneously in a willfull manner.

2009-12-03 22:17:04 UTCLAUREL

I gave PAETEC customer service a call and they were extremely pleasant and sent the do not call email to CC Advertising.

2009-12-03 00:28:57 UTCLiz

They called me home today and I'm in ARKANSAS! I've never even heard of this guy.

2009-12-02 19:49:32 UTCLew

Here's how you can email the Senator and get past his not-in-district email block.
Use a bogus name, bogus email address (but correct format), then: (street)Bee Cave Road, Austin, TX 78028-1122
Tell the congressman to stop the ROBO calls from RSRCHCNTR09. This worked to get an email through to his staff.

2009-12-02 19:39:29 UTCLew

I called Lamar Smith's office in Texas and complained. I'm sure nothing will happen. I also filed a complaint with Nancy Pelosi's office. If enough of us call Smith's office and tie up his phone line, things will change.

2009-12-02 16:37:13 UTCFYI

In the case of Lamar Smith using taxpayers dollars to fund these calls to non-constituents, also call his office legislative director, Geraldo Interinao, at 202 225 4236. Even if you live in Rep. Smith's district, if you have been bothered by these calls, and if the calls are going to your cell phone, contact this legislative director, expressed your concern.

2009-12-02 16:32:01 UTCFYI

The number 202 461 3442 is being used by a company CC Advertising (703 234 2200). 202 461 3442 is a number "owned" by the communications company PAETEC, who then assigns the telephone to one of its customers. It appears that PAETEC has assigned the number to CC Advertising (703 234 2200) . You can call PAETEC at 212 201 5000, ask for customer service. Give them the 202 number and your number that CC is calling; PAETEC will contact the company via email and get your number deleted from CC. If you received a call from an office holder, contact the Franking Commission under the Committee on House Administration (202 225 2061) to determine if the office holder is using taxpayer dollars to fund the calls. In my case, yes, the legislator was using taxpayer dollars even though I do not, and never have, lived in his district. Since the call went to my cell, I'm determined to publicize that Rep. Lamar Smith is not only apparently violating the use of taxpayer funds since I do not live in his district but also using my cell phone number and creating further cost to me.

2009-12-02 02:01:01 UTCLew

I'm on the do not call list and they still call me.

2009-12-02 01:42:45 UTCTexan

To make matters worse, I just found out I'm not even in his district. What a clown!

2009-12-02 00:54:35 UTCTexan

Lamar Smith is an annoying idiot. If you cant afford to pay someone to talk to me, dont call!!! Plus you are calling my cell phone and wasting my minutes. I didnt know who this clown was but will go out my to try and have him voted out.

2009-12-01 22:42:03 UTCTommy in Texas

This is BS. I've also been getting many calls. When I went to file a complaint with Lamar Smith, the site also rejected me. He's just earned a staunch opponent in any political discussions for this propaganda based campaign. The GOP is determined to tear our country apart, aren't they?

2009-12-01 22:10:35 UTCTexas

Left VM: "This is a constituent survey call. We may call back later"

2009-12-01 21:40:50 UTCmike

yup to my cell phone as well... a new first ...a new low.

2009-12-01 21:28:40 UTCsg

Call to my cell phone. Pre-recorded message left on my voice mail was cut off, so all I heard was "vote in Texas." Very annoying.

2009-12-01 21:22:28 UTCcrap

Same here, I am NOT in his district and he has called my cell multiple times... THIS is wrong, tried to go to his web site and send him an email but since my address is not in his district it will not send.

The number 202 461 3442 is being used by a company CC Advertising (703 234 2200); CC Advertising is being contracted by Texas Rep. Lamar Smith (202 225 4236) Rep. Smith's office admitted they are conducting a survey using CC Advertising. Rep. Smith's office received "franking privileges" to call our telephones; in other words, they received taxpayer dollars to repeatedly call our cell phones via CC Advertising. I do not live in Lamar Smith's district. At this time, Lamar Smith's office is refusing to tell me how they have my cell number. Also, since the office cannot get taxpayer dollars to fund communications to folks outside of their district, I'm seeking further information via a complaint with Congressional Ethics.

202 461 3442 is a number "owned" by the communications company PAETEC. You can call PAETEC at 212 201 5000, ask for customer service. Give them the 202 number and your number that CC is calling; PAETEC will contact the company via email and get your number deleted from CC.

But I'm filing a complaint with the "office of congressional ethics" (202 225 9739) due to the fact that Rep. Smith used taxpayers' dollars to fund these cell calls and I do not live in his district.

While the “do not call list” does not exclude elected officials calls, I think that we should request that franking privileges (“franking privileges” mean that taxpayers pay for the calls) should be reviewed: should such tax payer paid communication include calls to cell phones; calls made to cell phones at any and all hours and calls made with vague messages without identification as to what elected official used tax payer’s money to fund the call? You can call the Franking Commission (202 225 2061); the Franking Commission approved of these calls by Lamar Smith. You can file a complaint as stated above.

Recording from 2024613442 leaves message about " taking a survey " and promises to call again later.
This number is a landline based in Washington, DC and is unpublished.

2009-12-01 17:47:33 UTCLS

how dare you call my cell. I have been on the no call list and you still called. You people in Washington haven't done your jobs in 16 years - why are you asking us what we think at this point!

2009-11-30 22:10:53 UTCgetoffmynetwork

Republican Congressman Lamar Smith...automated voice asking if I voted in TX, then asking if he should continue to oppose government healthcare. I'll continue to oppose harassment by unworthy congressmen who shouldn't have my number in the first place.

2009-11-30 21:38:25 UTCRS

2009-11-30 15:33 CST: An automated voice left me voicemail: "...to ask you just a few questions. First, do you vote in Texas?"

2009-11-30 21:28:15 UTCannoyed

I don't know if this is related, but I signed up for a free sms texting iPod touch app this morning and I sent my cell phone a test text message. One hour after doing that, I started receiving annoying phone calls from out of state area codes. This was one of the numbers that called a few minutes ago. They let the phone ring once and then hung up. They did not leave a message. I'm assuming my phone number was sold to a bunch of scammers or something. It could just be a coincidence. Either way it's annoying. I looked up the other numbers that called today and they all have similar reports regarding possible scams.

rec'd vm from ph: 202-461-3442 dated 11/28/09 (saturday) @ 2:36pm stating "I have a few questions first you wrote Texas" then the call terminated. - I do not answer unknown numbers not programed in my phone nor call them back.

2009-11-29 00:39:23 UTCmg

made calls to my cell and also my husbands cell on the same day. Conducting some sort of "survey" I took the call and told the fast talking individual I wasn't interested and hung up. My husband didnt answer and they left a voice mail message that they may call again later. I'm also registered with Do Not Call. Is there any way to put a stop to these idiots?

2009-11-28 21:10:32 UTCJC

Received call on all three of my cell phones, when I called the number back it rang once and then went busy.

2009-11-28 15:21:17 UTCFB

Congressman Llamar Smith's office....political call

2009-11-23 15:52:21 UTCJoan Waters

This is annoying, I don;t care if it is my Congressman calling, I want it to stop!

2009-11-23 00:05:02 UTCSunny

Message stated "I voted against the proposed heatlth care reform...yada yada...ended by asking if I really want to face prison, jail or fines if it is passed into law..I said yes and hung up! Jerks...who is paying for these calls?

2009-11-22 18:27:31 UTCJim

Left wing wacko tree huggin SOB's. I'll guess they will never get it.

2009-11-21 19:06:35 UTCJim

This is CRAP!!!! They start out the ROBO-CALL saying it is a survey and then they ask such dubiously worded Right-wing slanted questions it is obvious it is NOT A SURVEY BUT A POLITICAL MESSAGE. So much for that good ole trying to find out what the people think. NOT something some people care about. I think the word to describe this type of call is "Fraudulent". Survey my Ass! RSRCHCNTR09 just wants to advance their political cause to those that are too stupid to figure out it's not really a survey. The people behind RSRCHCNTR09 are either idiots or evil. Either way I would vote against their brand of politics.

2009-11-20 23:05:22 UTCswiss

these $%^&*()))_()*&^&ERS call me, and hang up when I answer. If I am *not* here, they leave an automated msg saying "This was a research survey call - we may call you back." Click. When I tried to call back this number nothing happens. It does not connect to anything and then eventually a rapid busy signal. What horrible horrible people.

2009-11-19 23:11:18 UTCDavid Shovan

Congress and political parties are exempt from do not call regulations.

2009-11-16 18:25:10 UTCp. cornell

These idiots need to stop calling my house. I don't care if it's the President calling from this number. Knock it off. It's none of your business what the hell my opinion is on anything.

2009-11-10 17:04:47 UTCPat

How do I stop them from calling?

  1. Ask the unwanted caller to stop calling and put you on their do not call list (they are legally required to comply).
  2. If your number is registered with the National Do Not Call Registry you can file a complaint with the FTC.
  3. Block them with a call blocker (click pictures below for price and reviews).
